Tyres for 1.5 Sport
« on: August 15, 2023, 10:09:35 PM »
I have 185/55/16 size tyres on my 2018 Sport as standard

I do around 6,000 miles per year, the car has done about 24,000 miles

Any recommendations for tyre make and model

Many thanks

Dunlop Fast Response on ours.
Only sensible tyres available at the time a year ago and matched the 2 that were already on it.

No complaints in the dry or wet.

I think there is an older thread on the same question on the forum.
For the record, mine now has four Vredestein Quatracs (all weather tyres.)
Best by far.

I agree.
Now I'm running a set of Continental Ecocontact, so and so...  Definetly I miss the OEM Dunlop set.

I'll need new summer tyres soon as well. I haven't been able to decide between Michelin Primacy and Goodyear Effientgrip.

I'd like to have Michelin Energy, but it's not available in that size.

I had Michelin Primacy fitted after the original Dunlops. Disappointing. I was a died in the wool Michelin fan once, but not any longer.

toyo proxies are a  good mid range tyre, really pleased with the performance, may not last as long but good value at 280 for 4.

Would you please elaborate on your choice of Michelin Primacy tyres? - Currently there are Primacy 4 and Primacy 4+ available. I plan on buying 4+ for my Jazz so I'm quite interested in your opinion!

Sorry. I was not aware of the two types nor was I offered a choice. This would have been early 2020.

What were the reasons for disappointment? What features were worse than in original Dunlops? How about the wear?

The original Japanese made Dunlops on our 1.5 Sport were SP Sport 2020.

The rears were still fitted but they were cracking up after only 3 years and 27,000 miles so got rid.

Previous owner had put Dunlop Fast Response on the front so we put them on the rear too.

The tyres' performance was good but I expected a lot more than 13000 miles wear. And trust me, my days of hard driving are very much in the past!

I see the reason for disappointment. I would expect well over 20k miles from Michelin.

Recently had three new Toyo Proxes comfort fitted. Had two 5 year old Dunlop sport response on the rear reading 4.5mm. The road noise from the Dunlop's was noticeable in the rear of the car. The toyo's all round seem alot quieter in the cabin now.

I replaced 3mm Michelin ES up front on my Mk2 with Toyo Proxes and was very pleased with the change. Way more grip and a lot less noise. I would be happy to use Toyo again.
