New tyres - Jazz 2007
« on: February 17, 2014, 04:07:43 PM »
A couple of weeks ago I had all 4 tyres replaced for Hankook Ventus Prime 2 XL and have so far been very pleased with them. The most immediate thing I noticed was how quiet they were so if anyone is looking for a quiet tyre I can recommend these.

The fitters were also quite impressed as they normally expect to load the alloys with balancing weights but these tyres needed very few/none at all.

It is too early to note wear rate but hopefully they will be good.

How did you get on with the tyres? Did you use the standard size i.e. 185/55/R15?

The original thread is 9 years old.Tyres have moved on a lot in that time  and  The original tyre is probably no longer made. Something with a similar name may still be sold but unlikely its identical.

All season tyres in particular have improved a lot during that time. The best ones now have better grip, lower noise and longer tread life than you might expect.      Personally I'd stick to original tyre size if possible.  Saves any issues with insurers.

Tyre experience and recommendation.

My 2006 1.4 Jazz required two new tyres, size 185/55/R15, for the last tyre change I had four new  Goodyear Efficientgrip tyres.
A recent MoT test, the tester noticed the two front tyres had developed splitting of the treads at the bottom of the centre tread groove, and reported as an MoT advisory but not as a fail point. the rear tyres were in good condition fit for many more miles
I did consider buying premium tyres again, however  the tyre dealer recommended mid-range tyres, in particular GTRadial FE2 tyres at £68 fitted (2/3rd of the price of new Goodyear tyres).

The GTRadial FE2 tyres were installed , so far 100 miles some on dry roads, mostly in rain, I am pleased to report satisfaction, the tyres are quiet and inspire confidence, I find little difference compared to the premium Goodyear tyres, except in one area, the FE2 tyres have better feel through the steering wheel when cornering, note I am not referring to "sports car" driving, only normal careful driving.

When the rear tyres require replacement, I will buy the FE2's again  without any hesitation
