Misting Issue on my 2005 Honda Jazz
« on: January 27, 2025, 10:02:53 PM »
Hello, I have a 2005 Honda Jazz. All the windows mist up really easy and they take ages to demist. The windscreen demists from bottom up but the top never really demists. The windows don't really demist at all. Just a small portion of the front 2 windows do when I have the fans pointed at them. And the rear screen has two weirdly perfect rectangle strips that demist first and the rest doesn't really demist. Today it was particularly rainy and cold and I pretty much have to have the fan and AC on all the time otherwise it'll mist up quick.

I think the issue might be the seal on the roof? I have some small droplets that fall from the left hinge of the sun visor. I'm not sure how I fix this, if someone could guide me on that. Do I replace the seal? Or add some sealant around the existing seal? I really don't know this is my first car.

Other than that, I'll also have a look at the filter behind the glove box. From my research I think that can help?

What else can I do to reduce the misting? And what can I do to make sure it clears up properly.

Are Carpet / Unerlay / Mats, dry?
Floor pan perforated (by rust)?
Open windows a fraction to allow ventilation?
Does the 2005 Jazz draw air into a box /tray behind engine prior to it entering the ventilation system? Maybe there are damp leaves / debris there?
Definitely change air filter if damp.
The drip from visor - does that increase when it rains? - might just be condensation.

The weird rectangle strips on the rear window could be due to damaged elements on the heated rear window .
These fine 'wires' are printed on the inside surface of the glass. If any  get damaged, for instance by something   in the boot scratching the glass when the tailgate is shut ,that area of glass will not heat up and demist or defrost.     There could be more than one 'wire' damaged.

If it looks like one or more 'wire' is not working  examine   them very closely.  With a magnifying glass if necessary.  Any damage can be repaired with a heated window repair kit available on line or from Halfords.
They use a a variety of application techniques but are basically a paint/paste/foil that can conduct electricity.  You apply it across any break in the wire to complete the electrical  circuit and restore heating.

And I agree, check your cabin filter which may be damp or clogged with dirt ,reducing airflow.

ours gets a bit misty in winter. I've put a couple of cheap dehumidifier bags in which help. You can get them on amazon and you just pop them in the microwave every so often to remove the moisture they've absorbed.

Changing the cabin filter helped too

Hi guys, thanks for the replies.

I checked the cabin filter which did look quite grubby so I will order a new one.

The floor is completely dry and there's no rust on it. Sun visor hinge is wet and I haven't used the car at all in a couple of days. But it has been raining. Not sure if it could still be condensation or a leak?

I checked the vent under the hood and that was completely clear as well.

However there is water under the spare tyre in the boot. It looks quite nasty under there so Ill give it a clean. I'm not sure where the water came from though, I have attached a photo.

I had a look at the heating wires in the rear window and I did find a scratch in one of the lines. So I'll try to fix that the way you suggested. Thanks.

I'll also buy some of these bags to absorb moisture, I hope it works.

Also I realised that I had the air flow setting? On the logo of the car with the arrow looping around inside it. Maybe that's why it wasn't demisting well? There was no airflow? I switched it to the other one now, I will check if it helps next time I drive.

I think water getting into the boot is quite a common issue. I've not had the problem myself so not sure of the fixes but this thread might point you in the right direction https://clubjazz.org/forum/index.php?topic=245.0

"..the logo of the car with the arrow looping around inside it."
Think that indicates that the air (plus water vapour) is constantly re-circulating and not being refreshed by new (and maybe dry) air. In fact the air might be  getting more humid - just from wet  clothing / umbellas / breath / snow on boots
In my experience, with the re-circulation setting there is a tendency for the water vapour in the air to condense on windows.
I guess if the air-con passes the air (fresh & re-circulating) past a condenser and if it drains the condensate to outside the vehicle; then running the air-con will help reduce the dampness. - Standing water in the spare wheel tray might a tall order

It's most likely water getting in the boot.

I'm sure from memory when I had my 2016 jazz it wasn't sealed up properly. I just put some seam sealer on all the joints and it cured it.
