Help to depin mirror switch connector
« on: November 22, 2024, 03:48:52 PM »
Hello, my folding mirror motor runs all the time while the ignition is on.  The easiest solution I found is to depin wires providing power to the motor responsible for the folding of mirrors.  Found the pins I need to remove but not able to remove the wires that need to come out.

Watched many Utubes on depinning of wires from the connectors but none shows the connector type I have (photo attached).  Anyone knows or has a link showing how to remove the pins from this type of connector (Honda Jazz 2006 1.5 auto, Australia)?

Jumping on this because my car has the same problem, and going into winter, I need the heated part of the mirror so I can't unplug it and pulling the fuse takes out the blower motor with it...

Is there a reason you cant just cut the wires and insulate the ends ?  Might also be easier if you ever want to   reconnect them  ,and make it obvious to a new owner why the mirror is not folding   .

I suspect I know which pins they are but don’t want to cut the wires in case I am wrong.  Not concerned about the folding mirrors - bought my car second hand and it never worked, for some reason the motor started running after the car was washed.

I put a continuity meter on a what looks like a terminal of the button responsible for folding the mirror at the back of the switch and checked which pin has continuity with it.  I am 95% sure these are the right pins but trying to address the remaining 5%

Ok, got it done.

Continuity meter was not a good idea - the pins I thought were the ones to remove were not the ones.  Experimented with the meter again and guessed another two pins wrong.

Finally found some info on this forum which said terminals 7 and 8 are the one that operate the folding mirror motors (refer to the attached photo).  Removed terminal 7 only and it was enough to stop the whirling motor.
To remove the switch from the dashboard you need a a flexible flat knife - insert along the bottom of switch to release the spring clip and remove.

The harness unplugs easily from the switch (press plastic spring tab on one side of the plug and remove.

Removing the individual pins is a challenge - none of the pin removal tools I have seen in utubes would work.  Ended up using a dental pick.  If you don’t have one I suggest you take your car to an auto electrical shop and pay someone $10 to remove the pin 7.

If you still want to have a go yourself:

Remove plastic cover from the middle of the plug on the side opposite to the plug release tab
The plastic pigtail holding the wire is between the plastic cover opening and the end of plug - you can’t see it as it is covered by the front part of the plug

You have to find a tool that will slide through the plastic cover opening with a small hook to press down the pigtail holding the wire (the pin has a small hole to access the tab).  If your hook is too long you will not be able to put it in as the space above the wire pin is quite low.  If your hook is too short, it will not be long enough to depress the pigtail.

You can try to do it from the front of the plug but you will need a longer dental pick that you will need to insert 45 degrees up (to miss the larger front of the pin) and then rotate it down trying to press down on the plastic pigtail.

Either of the above methods is quite painful for someone who does not do it regularly - took me couple of hours to remove the first pin and then at least 5 min to remove the subsequent pins even though I already knew what is holding them and what I am trying to do.

If your wiring colours and plug look the same as mine and you don’t care about ever repairing folding mirrors you simply cut the wire going to terminal 7 (red purple wire second from the left)

Good luck!

Hello! the wires on my mirror's connectors are different colours, and the connectors it self are diferent. It seems the white connector is for the mirror with mirror heating (to separate black cables), and the other one is just for motoring the mirror. I'm tnking of gutting the wires and soldering them again, but con't seem to finda a way to know the correspondent ones. Any help?

These plugs look like the ones that it is easy to remove the wires - have you tried? If they can be removed easily (watch some tubes) remove one wire at a time a see which one would stop the mirror motor from running.

I would not be cutting and soldering wires.

I am trying to depin the same connector (The white one in the image), but cannot see how to do it. I have unclipped it on both sides which opens it a little but can't see how to open it further. I have searched youtube but can't find anything.
