servicing costs
« on: May 17, 2021, 02:07:09 PM »
Hi, just found out that the service cost for the one after next year is in the region of £700+. for a car that would have only done max of 3800 and 6 years old seems madness looking at all the things that the service book that they should do. They also said that if you had a civic they would have to drop the engine, poor design comes to mind. Has anyone had this very large service done ? Mine is a 2017 model with 26000miles on it now. ty

I've just taken out a Honda "Tailored Servicing" contract for the servicing and MOT's for years 6 and 7 at a total cost of £691.70 paid over the two years.  This does not include replacing the plugs as I expect the mileage by then to be only around 60,000, (Covid permitting!)

There was a long list of things, plugs, manifold gaskets which seem strange, 5 and a half hours work apparently.
Think it will be time to find an independent then.
Guess it must be in the service book somewhere, I have not looked.

This contract is taken out through a main dealer and is valid in any Honda dealer.  You don’t have to have more work done than you need.

Did not know about this, will have to look into it, do not now do the mileage so could be an option I guess. ty

Do you happen to know exactly how this scheme works please.  Especially where you don’t have to have more work done than you need.   Ty

I think the gaskets are to do with removing the manifolds for the valve clearance check / adjustment.

Check the schedule on your car - it started off at 25K on the first Jazz but Honda changed it to 62,500 miles.  Apparently they never really need doing.

As far as I know all Jazz's have long life plugs and they're good for 75K miles.

I suppose you're hitting these limits based on time - 1yr=12,500 miles.

On all our cars I tend to stick with the dealer until it's out of warranty but after that it's a bit bonkers to use one - the reason they exist is to extract as much money out of you as possible.

We use a "specialist" (it was started by the service staff from a closed dealership) for both of the Jazz's but they do more work on other marques now than they do Honda.   I took daughter's car last year when it was 6yrs old / 60K miles and we had a discussion about what would be appropriate and they did that work.

I had an e-mail discussion with the dealer, based on my experience of a similar two year contract for services 6 and 7 on my Mk2.  The advantage is that I have a fixed price quote spreading the cost over two years.  If for some reason I sell the car early, any unspent cash will be refunded, although I don’t expect to test that option.  The contract is entitled “Tailored Service Plan ( National)” and a contract no (HTNxxxxxxx) and a dealer code.  It does not include plug replacement.

Thanks for that, so do you think it is still worth doing?   Ty

It suits me to have a fixed price deal, with nothing more to pay for servicing and MOT for two years (excluding parts failure).  No doubt I could save money at an independent, but as I expect in due course to trade the car in for a new one at this dealer, they will have a complete service record which might just help the part-exchange value.  I have been using them since 2008 without any problems arising, and they are within walking distance of home - all very easy.

There's certainly a comfort factor is using a dealer and it's often more convenient as they usually have courtesy cars and more general garages often don't (although our Honda one has a couple of mk1 Jazzes).

I don't think the increased px value holds water in practice unless it's a car they can retail themselves as approved used.  Apart from anything else, dealers often use WBAC to value cars and they don't care where servicing was done.

The other problem with dealers, and some are worse than others for this, is the staff are under a lot of pressure to upsell - so you'll get the "it needs pads and discs all round" call at full Honda pricing, or told you need new tyres as your current ones are on 4mm.

Do Honda still have a service scheme known as fixed price repairs?  It was aimed at competing with the independents who undercut the Honda rates. The scheme applied to cars after a certain age.
If you buy the new Jazz on finance such as the PCP ,Honda include a 5 year service plan at no charge, in addition to the £500 off for  taking the car for a test drive, I'm almost tempted!

That is a serious price for iridium plugs.
Does anyone know when they should be replaced.
Going to look into this year 6&7 deal.
is it 4 for the jazz? ty
