Title: Mk2 Stereo Upgrade Advice
Post by: Testarossa67 on November 09, 2019, 01:40:47 PM
Hi , wanted to pick the brains of the community !!

I have had my Jazz for a few weeks now and having failed trying to get my iPhone to pair to the stereo using the USB port in the centre console ( MP3 AAC compatibility with the later versions of IOS and iTunes !!!) , i am looking at changing the stereo .
This would replicate the great setup i had in the last car , connected iPhone as an iPod via a usb lead to the head unit .

Having read the excellent posts on the forum , particularly the one with lots of pictures for the hard of understanding (ME !!) i am settling on going for a branded head unit rather than the all in one android kits from Ebay and get the fitting kit separately .

Checked with my local radio fitting company ( Warrington ) and felt £200 parts+head unit+ 2 hrs fitting was too much !!
Halford looked a better bet as they sell the head unit i am looking at Pioneer with USB out at the rear and total price was a reasonable £210 fitted .

Looked at reviews for Halfords fitting and it seems a bit pot luck between good and rubbish , so i am am wondering if doing it myself would be a better option ?
I am fine with mechanical stuff on cars but not so on electrical , especially radios and the last one i did myself many many moons ago had a cassette and a graphic equaliser !!.

Not wanting to sound thick but the Connect2 wiring that come with the kits i have seen ( surround + brackets + Connect2 ) are they just plug and play ? , no soldering required ?? .

If its just a case of removal and refit with no locating and soldering of wires then i would fancy having a go.

If anyone has done this could advise me if this is the case as per the excellent post with photo's i have seen here .

Thanks in advance for the help !!
