Shifter & Colour
« on: September 28, 2017, 12:55:12 AM »
Hello all,

I've just got a couple of queries regarding my GD5;

1) I've noticed when I am driving at a low RPM in any gear 1-4 (not tested in 5th) my gear shifter starts to rock back and forth in the current selected gear, it hasn't caused any issues such as falling out of gear or otherwise but stuck curiosity and concern, it also sounds like it's knocking every time it rocks.
 I've researched into changing the bushing at the base of the shifter but when most "diagnose" the problem it doesn't match my current experience.

2) I have a few problems of rust and bubbled rust dotted over the car, the previous owner(s) did not take good care of the car as the rear bumper is two separate colours (looks like a butchered attempt at a coverup) and I want to get rid of the rust and patch up the defects. I know the paint code for my Jazz is B520P/ Vivid Blue Pearl but my issue is I can only find online vendors such as eBay/Amazon, halfrauds don't do any other Honda blue apart from Supersonic but I have seen they do a Peugeot blue called "Aegean Blue" which looks close to the vivid pearl, does any one have any experience with this particular colour and how it matches? And should I trust the online providers?

Thanks in advance!

I bought my Vivid Blue Pearl on Amazon. Supplier was Xtreme Auto Accessories. No problems at all. Paint is a great match.
Regards the gearbox. Is it quiet enough or do you too suffer from the dreaded input shaft bearing wear?

I bought a small pot of mixed pearlescent paint from a car paint specialist via eBay, seemed a perfect match for colour.  Came with paint application spears, plus lacquer to bring chips up to the same level.  Can't see the stone chip now after buffing & compounding.  I would not bother with the 'tippex' type of paint from Halfords and spraying is probably best left to the pros.

I shall carry on looking! Thanks chaps.

It can be noisy almost like a grinding metal on metal sound, I do think this is also my clutch which I'm replacing in a couple of days so I'll see what it's like after that.

If a metallic rumbling noise is there when you let the clutch up, it's almost certainly the input shaft bearings on the gearbox. It's not a difficult job for the reasonably competent, but it's gearbox out & time consuming, hence expensive for a garage to fix. The input shaft bearings and seal kit is only £30.

I don't know if you are having the clutch fitted or DIY, but it would make sense to have a look at the gearbox while it's off for the clutch.
