What oil grade for my Jazz?
« on: June 25, 2014, 10:32:59 PM »
Hi everyone, I'm looking to service my Jazz at the weekend and was wondering what grade oil should I be using?

I have a GD1 sport manual.

Thanks in advance J

That's easy 0W/30.

Castrol Edge or Shell Helix is available in that grade.

They will both be synthetic.

Both are fine, personally I use fully synthetic for maximum protection.

Is there any advantage/disadvantage in using 0w40?

In a temperate climate like UK there is no reason to use 0W oil at all (maybe in Siberian winter or Antarctic it would be more useful).  5W-30 or 10W-40 is more than adequate and cheaper as well.  Don't get carried away with buying sports car super-synthetic oil for a Jazz, better to get a decent synth or semi-synth 5W-30 Ford A1 spec (fuel saver oil) for about £25.  Just remember longer journeys are much better for your oil than short hops to the shops,  and even if you only do 3K a year still change it every 12 months, not every 12K.

I've been using Castrol Magnatec 4L 5W-30 A1 (Ford) engine oil for years.

Thanks for that. It's just that I keep reading that Mobil 1 is reckoned to be the bees knees when it comes to oil.

So it may be - but at over £40 for 4 litres (same as Castrol Edge) bit of an overkill for Jazz,  buy Mobil formula 3000 instead at less than £25.  As Richard A says - Magnatec 5W-30 Ford A1 is just what the doctor ordered for your Jazz @ around £25 for 4 litres - with money you save do be sure to buy Honda filter though - no good having fresh oil and a crap filter that will loose bits the size of pebbles off Brighton beach through, some cheap filters either have pore size too big, or too small and can block up quickly and go into bypass when pressure builds up, then you lose all filtration .

I bought a Honda oil, air and pollen filter from Honda. They previously replaced the clutch under warranty as it had judder. Sadly, the cars been dripping oil since then, so it's going back in on the 11th for remedial work. They said they suspect a gasket got "nicked" when the work was done. I just hope they didn't forget to put a new gasket in. ;)  When it's sorted I'll change the oil, and put in new plugs.
