My local dealer is already advertising the availability of the 1.6-litre Civic diesel.

It can't come too soon in my opinion; I bet Honda have lost a number of sales to VW, etc by not offering a small diesel.

Very interesting.  I just called the Honda dealer and there are no plans to introduce it soon.

However, this new car is on sale from 2nd January.

If music be the food of love, play on

I really object to seriously ugly cars  - see the Juke.

The Civic's rear gives a new twist on "ugly".

I got a drive in it at my local dealer. Its great engine and feels as powerful as the 2.2 CTDi

It was just a quick drive round the block, but I was impressed

that 1.6 diesel has a cam belt not a chain and they dropped my 1.6 civic from the lineup because it was a belt not a chain

i prefer the chain in my jazz, no maintenance in 5 years time with the water pump separate also

would love to see the brio over here with my 1.2 engine in it only in india at the moment

Not sure from where you got the cam belt information, but in technical information here it says Cam CHAIN.

that picture shows a single cam diesel engine, the specs from honda are a twin cam so that is the wrong engine picture

i hope your right as i much prefer chain to belt its less hassle and more reliable ive seen a water pump seize and rip the cam belt through the plastic cover and trash the engine, it was on a peugeot so that is to be expected lol

CHAIN.

Test drove one recently... very impressed! Great engine - tractable and quiet with decent oomph - while handling and bump absorption are very good. The exceptionally lightweight engine must help in that department.

Very, very tempted... however, for me for now, my Jazz continues to be such a great all-round value for money 'package'.
