2012 Honda Civic revealed
« on: September 10, 2011, 02:56:29 PM »
The first glimpse of the 2012 Honda Civic has been revealed. The new hatchback model is an evolution of the previous generation and as before is built exclusively in Swindon.

More information to follow after the official debut at the IAA Frankfurt Motor Show in a few days time. Rumours suggest a new small capacity diesel engine and maybe even a hybrid model will be offered, but no word yet on a successor to the inspirational Type R, killed off due to the K20Z4 engine failing to meet tough Euro V emissions regulations.

Honda seem to be very proud of the work they've done to improve the new Civic's suspension set-up, to give a smoother ride combined with good handling.  If it's successful, perhaps they can do the same thing for the next Jazz!

Civic will get a 1.6-litre diesel:

120bhp, 221lb-ft of torque and 95g/km CO2 emissions. Road tax exempt and no charge in the London Congestion Charge zone. Also set to appear in next year's new CR-V and the next generation Accord.

I went to a launch evening at Brighton Honda last week for the new civic. They had a top of the range model there to look at and a short talk from someone from Honda. The car was very impressive and ousing quality but with a price tag around £27k it's going to have to be good, very good. I'm afraid it will have to remain a dream!

Lower CO2 emissons than the Jazz Hybrid, but higher NOx emissions.

I'll be interested to hear which is cleaner in the real-world - I suspect the EU legislates against CO2 partly because the French and German manufacturers makes a lot of low-CO2 diesels and conduct some serious lobbying with Brussels!

What's the visibility like through the rear windscreen? Does the "spoiler" on the rear hatch collect rainwater and then spill it all over you when you open it?
