Flaps between rear seats and parcel shelf
« on: July 28, 2010, 12:53:48 PM »
Does anyone know the purpose of the two flexible flaps which are attached to the parcel shelf and fasten to the rear seats with press studs?
I have asked several Honda salesmen and non of them know! Cars in the showrooms always have them
unclipped and hanging down.
They are not mentioned in the hand book.

I think they are the most useless things ever invented i think they are to stop items left on the parcel self from falling into the boot. :( :(

I'm pretty sure they're in the brochure as an umbrella holder.

I think they're designed to go with reclining rear seats (which UK spec models don't have!)

I thought the roller cover in the previous Jazz was a more practical arrangement than the hard cover.

No idea what the flaps are for, but I feel compelled to pop them in place - I'm sure I'll injure myself at some point!

...I was told that at the dealers, they're there because the gap would look silly :D

I too keep my (Dealer supplied) golf brolly there. Preferred the roller cover on the old model as the flaps detach if you want to go into the boot from the inside...which I do sometimes when I don't want the world to see my laptop etc. in the boot.

When the new Jazz was first put into my local dealer and I looked when having my old model serviced there was a large open gap between the seats and the hard cover. Concerned that belongings in the boot would be seen the salesman told me I'm sure Honda will 'do something there'.

Re-fixing the flaps is an infuriating job.  One option would be to fix short strips of Velcro to the flaps and the seat backs, and use them instead of the press-studs.  This system is used by Toyota in the Yaris to do the same job, and works well.

The main problem I have with these flaps is that, when the rear seats are folded down flat but the parcel shelf is left in place with the flaps dangling down, the studs make an infuriating rattling noise.  >:(

x2

And when it happens the firts time you need some time to find where the noise is comming from  ... grrrr  ;D
Other than that I must say I don't have anything to complain about it.
I have others things to complain about (rattling noise from the dashboard, windows trembling when a bit open...)
