Touch-up paint, recommendations please.
« on: December 18, 2021, 04:30:16 PM »
I'd like to do some little spot repairs.
Colour required:-  (HONDA B528M SIRIUS BLUE METALLIC)

I wonder if anybody had bought a touch-up pen/paint that they were happy with. There seems to be so many different options on ebay.

Thanks guys.

Via a dealer or somewhere like Cox is best.

I've seen third party paints and they rarely match the original colour.
Let's be careful out there !

That blue looks stunning Jocko.

Also would you have any idea about taking a couple scuffs out of my colour coded bumpers?

You could try T-Cut as long as we are not talking about damage to the plastic, only the colour.

It used to be the  case that auto paint factors could make up  colour coded rattle can of paints  while you wait.  Either to manufacturers code  or they can measure the actual colour from the car with an instrument.  Particularly useful if paint has faded etc over the years.   But bear in mind that metallic paints can change colour tone depending on how the metallic particles are laid down. Ie it can differ depending on which direction you spray from.

I say 'used to' because it doesnt seem to be as widely advertised as it once was, and some may no longer do it. They are usually located on business parks . The ones I used in the past were very helpful to amateur retail customers.   The  cost of a can was no more than buying one in Halfords , .And basic sundries such as body filler, abrasive papers, masking tape, rubbing compounds etc was often much cheaper.   Or it was .

Some years ago I got Halfords to mix me a bottle based on the door pillar paint code.

The 'old boy' took his time, measured the 'ingredients' slowly and with care.

It looked OK in the bottle but was nowhere near when applied. This was on a car that spent its life out of the sun so minimal fade.

The other thing, with Honda touchup, it used to be a single bottle and worked well. They recently changed it to a matt base coat and gloss clearcoat that I find harder to use.

Let's be careful out there !
