Value my car?? Just for giggles
« on: March 24, 2021, 08:42:06 PM »
I am looking at selling my 65 reg Hybrid Jazz in HS-T trim.
I have had a valuation from WeBuyAnyCar, and they value it at £3760  :o
It has high mileage, at 134000 but I know they are good for 250k+ miles, it also has Full Honda Service History.
I have looked on AutoTrader and found a few examples, not necessarily HS-T trim:
2011, 169000 miles £3250
2011, 120000 miles £3890
2012, 106000 miles £4690
Average mileage of the above 3, 131,000 miles, av price £3943, but mine is 4 years newer??
Another 3, theses are newer cars, from garages:
2015, 20000 miles £10000
2015, 51000 miles £9995
2011, 16000 miles £9450
but mine is 100,000 miles higher
So what do you think I should list it for??
Thanks

I've thought about WBAC just for info after each advert but never followed it up as I considered they probably want an email addy then you get unwanted spam ?

I signed up to an insurance comparison site once, years ago, just for info, and the follow up emails were chronic.
Let's be careful out there !

It depends on the history and condition of the car to a large extent.

A well worded advert and photographed well, you should acheive a decent price. I amazed by folk that pay good money to advertise their car on Autotrader with an expensive add, and then list it with terrible photographs and no information or badly written details. First impressions.

These are the sites I use to value a car.

https://www.whatcar.com/car-valuation/
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-valuation

WBAC are British Car Auctions.

Take into account that a hybrid is in demand, and the Jazz is a popular car. City dwellers will be very keen to buy the vehicle.

I did a search on Autotrader, looking at hibrid cars in that age group, it would indicate around £5000. Maybe start at £5995 to test the water?

Private sale - Insight 2014 113k £5200

Dealer Jazz 2014 50k £5990 - BUT add says its £1430 below book, so presumably its rough or the colour?

AutoTrader online valuation as come in at £3500 part exchange or £4400 as a private sale . . . .  :(
Looks like I'm going to take a financial hit.

Can't you offset any excess loss due to business mileage against tax at least?

You can have them for that. That is very bad. I unsubscribed and they stopped. Ofcom is it?

You say that, but again, the history and condition are such important factors. If your car is in great condition has a stamp in the service book every 10k, that will have a big impact. If you've had the car from new, one owner is always a bonus. So many cars out there have had several owners/scant history etc.

Lockdown is coming to an end, people will want cars so they can stay off public transport. I would start at £5k min for a couple of weeks and see what happens.

I understand Facebook marketplace is a good place to advertise these days, and Motors.co.uk will get you a national advert for free.

Have you looked at Motorway.co.uk? They list your car to dealers who then make offers for it

The mileage is against it, a six years old Jazz with over 100,000 will struggle, most people that tend to buy Honda Jazz’s would not usually consider a high mileage car unlike say a high mileage Merc or BMW which will usually find a buyer.  I wouldn’t take much notice of asking prices. I recently sold an immaculate MK1 privately for £3150 WBAC offered £2500 so perhaps set a private price of the WBAC price +20%.
Depending on timescale maybe start at £4750 and drop by £250s until it goes.

Cheers, but they don't want a Jazz with that high a mileage.

A few friends have said they like the car, but they can't afford it at the moment, so I might just hang on to it for now.

Not a bad strategy. Also, is there a bizarre situation where, the older the car gets, with zero mileage being added, the algorithms will start in increase the value of the car as the age/mileage ratio approaches a more normal usage level? Might have to wait a few years through  ::)

I was reading in Autocar the other day, that values of hybrid cars are on the slide by some margin. Ripple effect apparently from a reduction in Uber useage during the lockdowns.

https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/industry-news-environment/analysis-used-hybrid-values-slashed-demand-falls-pandemic

Came as a surprise to me, because I thought hybrids had about the most robust residuals of all.
