What is this pipe? HRV GEN1
« on: March 14, 2020, 12:33:19 PM »
Hello all, I wonder if anyone can help me identify this metal pipe please.

The car is a 2002 HR-V CVT Non-Vtec.

The picture is from a youtube video titled "Honda HRV with CVT - Changing the Transmission Oil" by Martin Embery @+-30secs and is looking at the CVT fill hole where a metal pipe is attached by fixed hanger next to the fill hole.

The pipe is connected by other rubber hoses to the lower smaller connection of the radiator. It is corroded where it attaches to the hanger and is leaking.

I have been over the exploded diagrams for two days and cannot find it. I hope somone with some experience can help me identify it, the part number and what is leaking out of it please. I do not seem to be losing levels from water or cvt...

Thank you

Does your car have aircon, if so it might be a pipe from the aircon radiator (condenser) ? If it is and it is leaking then your aircon will be poor. It could be the condensor itself as they liable to puncturing being low down in front of the car.

Thanks for replying Vic.

Has a/c that doesnt work great.

The liquid that comes out is not very oily, smells nasty and doesnt evaporate easily Has been dripping slowly for a week at least is warm and adhering to surfaces it contacts. Does that help?

Having thought about this a bit more if the aircon was leaking the leak would be of gas. The aircon gas does contain oil to keep the system lubricated and the seals supple.

Your picture is pretty small to see clearly, but it sounds like the pipes for the transmission oil cooler which is part of the radiator and connected via metal and rubber pipe to the transmission

@ Steve_M

The picture should zoom up quite large if you click on it.

Yes, number 9 in the diagram and it will be CVT fluid that you will be leaking, so probably best to do a fluid change to be on the safe side.
