Title: Boot light
Post by: John Ratsey on August 10, 2022, 02:00:42 PM
I had my boot open for well over an hour today while loading ready for a trip to the tip and noticed after some time that the boot light was off. To check that it hadn't drained the battery (which it shouldn't as I had fitted an LED bulb - much brighter) I shut the boot door and opened it again whereupon the light came on.

My conclusion is that Honda have fitted a timer somewhere in the circuit to reduce the risk of the battery being drained by a door being left open.

Good to know that ,if there is indeed a timer, it is not affected by fitting an LED bulb.   In the early days  LED's could sometimes confuse sophisticated  lighting circuits which were able to detect blown bulbs etc.

I wonder what the timer is.

I've had mine open for quite some time when loading and its never gone out.

I didn't notice how long before the light went off but the boot would have been open for more than an hour while I looked for items to load.

This is the LED bulb https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/382894921689 . The price is for 10 so I've got some left over! The pack cost only £3.95 two years ago. Significantly brighter than the supplied bulb as well as using less power. I also changed the reversing light bulbs to these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/114467956864 for better illumination.

I've got the LED boot light. The official Honda one. Well worth the change, makes a difference.

I've not had the boot open an hour though so that'll be why it stayed lit.

Just replaced my boot bulb with one of these. Perfect fit and considerably cheaper than the official "accessory"  :)

Literally a 30 second job and so much brighter. Weird how Honda fitted an incandescent instead of LED on a 2022 vehicle.

I use my boot so infrequently that it does not bother me... :)

I did the same, it's the simplest mod you can do on the Jazz and is much better than the filament, especially with bright white rather than warm.

What's the best way to remove the transparent boot light cover without damaging it? My printed manual makes no mention of the 'luggage area light' and the online manual (pp 562) shows a completely different fitting to that installed in my Crosstar.

...I just used a flat bladed screwdriver.
A strong pry tool would do, or decent finger nails  ;D

It opens up really easy. Just a flat bladed screwdriver at the rear of the housing toward the back of the seat pops it out.
