Drive issue
« on: August 05, 2023, 05:42:34 PM »
I did not know this forum existed until I googled the problem Ihave owned two Honda Jazz Series 2 and now series 3 Navi EX CVT 2017 no problems at all 17k miles Today in heavy rain storm I drove over a raised kerb in a car park car, my car  halted and stalled. It stated I drove off then tyre deflation operated I had blown out off side front tyre. I replaced with my emergency wheel spare on driving home I felt I could not accelerate over 40 mph I rang Honda no service personnel on duty only sales so no answers. I was not aware  of any other warning light appear I will check tomorrow I obviously need a new tyre will buy two! But can anyone help have you experienced anything similar ? I can’t find any information in my manual Does Honda Jazz have a limp home mode ? Or am I just worrying unnecessarily ? Any help appreciated as my Honda dealership is 20 miles away  do not wish to drive in limp mode if that is the case can codes be checked by independent garages? Thanks any help appreciated from a long time Honda owner with no previous problems Phil

The Jazz measures the rotation of all 4 wheels; in case 1 rotates at another speed the tyre deflation warning is triggered.
Now you have the spare wheel mounted, it might be that the rotation of that wheel is way off (smaller diameter). It should be okay after changing the wheel for a proper one. I did not know it could trigger a sort of limp mode; I have heard of cvt cars not changing gears because the car was under the impression it was going round a corner. That might be similar.

I've not heard of any sort of limp mode, but it would make sense for Honda to have included some sort of feature that limits engine output in certain fault situations. But I think such systems would normally be triggered by engine or transmission faults rather than tyres?

Actually, if you've fitted a spacesaver spare (rather than a full size spare) then you don't want to go much above 40mph anyway.

Possibly a silly thought, but are you certain that you haven't accidentally set one of the speed limiters at 40mph?

Finally, if you hit a kerb hard enough to blow out a tyre, then you may have  damaged something else in the suspension or steering, so should get  those checked.

I'd get the tyre(s) replaced and safety checks carried out first by a local tyre specialist. This might reset any limp mode.  And its likely to be cheaper anyway with a better choice of tyres than  a Honda dealership.
