Manual gearbox speed sensor wiring pinout
« on: April 20, 2025, 04:40:45 PM »
Hello all. I'm in mid flow of replacing my gearbox and unfortunately on removal one plug got caught. The speed sensor ontop.
I have a plug in one hand and 3 perfect pins on cable in the other. Does anyone know what order they go in the plug?

Mk1 2004. 1.3 dsi manual box
Black with yellow stripes
White with green stripes
Black

Thanks

The Haynes manual shows it as a 3 wire sensor.
Black / Yellow is the live feed to pin 2.
Blue / White is the signal wire from pin 3 which goes to C15 on the instrument cluster.
Black is the ground connection from pin 1.

Apparently, there's also a reversing light switch close to the speed sensor for info.

Great stuff thank you. I can't see which one is pin 1 in the plug or sensor to reference the wiring. At least with the black yellow in the middle. i now have a 50/50 split and not sending a live down something I shouldn't.

Thanks again.

Have a really good look with a magnifying glass on the  plug as it's very common  for the pin numbers to be cast into the plastic somewhere.
It's not certain, but there's a good chance they are.
