Smart insurance
« on: March 25, 2021, 05:23:19 PM »
I'm picking up my new crosstar next week, and the salesman asked if I want smart insurance. This apparently covers you for any scratches up to 35 cms. He says its for any size scratch or dent. I find this difficult to believe because surely it doesn't cover you for a very small chip. It costs £399 .  Anyone got experience of it and does it really cover you for all small scratches? Is it worth it ?

Is that an annual charge of £399, or lifetime cover?  It sounds quite unnecessary to me.

All of these offers such as Gap Insurance and Paint Protection are big money earners for the dealer and can often be got cheaper elsewhere. You can buy a lot of paint treatment products for £399.

I don't usually take any notice of Trustpilot reviews due to the fact that it's so easy to get bad reviews removed, but it doesn't look good.

Bear in mind that the comments are mixed up with ones for Smart Life Insurance, but all the comments relating to the Smart Insurance paintwork insurance are pretty bad.

Also, this is worth a read

You will probably have to tell your main insurer about any claims that you make on a scratch and dent policy, too. The respective companies should be able to advise you about this but, generally, any claim has to be reported to your main insurer, otherwise you could invalidate your policy, so scratch and dent cover is not a way to avoid adding claims to your normal car insurance policy.

I remember getting the Diamond Protect, or whatever it was called on my first Civic. What a big mistake that was.

Whatever they did to the interior it took me many weekends of vacuuming to get what looked like sacking residue out of every crevice.

Then joining a Civic forum they also said I'd been sucked in with what is available off the shelf at a fraction of the price.

Same with the tyre gunk. When you need a new one Tyre Weld is a third of what Honda want.
Let's be careful out there !

£11 a month? Sounds like wasted money to me.

I never buy any add ons, extended warranties or trade ups. Stick the money in the bank and watch the interest roll in!  :D

I know. Even 0.5 % is briliant these days! Lucky enough to be a saver, so shouldn't moan, but I do miss my ING account and the 5% rate it had. Memories...... :D
