Possible pitch invasion !

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/jul/10/flying-ants-could-swarm-euro-2020-final-at-wembley

It's that time of year again...this time last year I drove into a swarm of the them at 70mph. I had hundreds of them splatted on the front of my car.

Quite a few people have suggested that Sterling 'penalty' was a blatant dive ( and it certainly looks like it ).   What England players diving, perish the thought  :o

Well he did go down easily, but he’s not the first player to be given a soft penalty, that’s football at the end of the day. Not exactly a ‘hand of God’ moment.

Cricket, Rugby and tennis all accept video referee and are much fairer for it - but not football..  the 'beautiful game' is anything but....

Video referee ? What is VAR then?

Does not seem to get used at important points - they will use it to show someone was an inch offside ( as if that makes any difference ), and maybe handball ( but still hard to decide if it was deliberate ),  but not often enough - and a penalty is a pretty important decision as it is an almost certain goal opportunity.

https://metro.co.uk/2021/07/07/why-var-didnt-overturn-englands-controversial-penalty-against-denmark-14892112/

VAR should be used to help the ref make the correct decision but it's like they don't want to go against the ref's original decision - let's hope there are no controversial decisions and not too much play acting tonight.

Had to laugh today,  someone was comparing the two teams in the final,  they said Italian squad looked like a bunch of mafia hit men,  and England looked like a hairstyle catalogue...

Some people will only consider you an expert if they agree with your point of view or advice,  when you give them advice they don't like they consider you an idiot

Exactly my point,  other sports the video regularly used to overturn ref or umpire decision,  but football just plays lip service to VAR.

I hear Sterling is in the British diving team for Tokyo Olympics ...

Well, less than half an hour to go now. I won't lie, getting excited!

Whatever the outcome though, this will be a match to remember.  :D

Italy were the better team on the night, though their tackling was unsporting,  England had only one shot on-target which fortunately produced a goal. Italy had many more. Pickford made several good saves. The second half, a spell of so many poor passes by England and loss of composure and  possession. Grealish should have been called  far earlier. A penalty shoot out is not the right way to settle a draw in a final of a big tournament,  a replay within 24  or 48 hours is the honourable way

Two questions.
1) Why in Scotland many people were supporting Italy and not the UK team?
2) Why Uk players have immediately  removed their silver medals?
Thanks

Because even after 400 years of joint sovereignty, the Scots and the English are still fierce sporting rivals.

When the Scottish tennis play, Andy Murray, was really on top of his game and won Wimbledon, the English press described him as 'British'. When he was injured or not playing so well, he was described as Scottish.

Don't know about the medals though.
