My wife fancies the Crosstar
« on: April 17, 2021, 08:34:53 PM »
I  commented to my wife that when we replace the old Jazz unless I go electric, I will buy another Jazz. We saw the new Crosstar and had a look at it, and she really liked it. When I told her it was an inch higher than the Jazz, making it easier to get in and out, she thought that would be the one for us. She was delighted to find it was an automatic (she doesn't drive, mind) as she knows I am keen on automatics (I started my automatic love affair before we started ours), and until the Jazz, it was all we had.
So, as well as MG5's, I will be looking at the Crosstar as well.

I wonder what mpg you could get from a Crosstar given your impressive numbers for a Mk 1 Jazz. However, your optimised driving style means that you've already achieved many of the energy efficiency gains that the hybrid system provides for everyone else. I'm sure that you would like the extra performance although an EV will probably provide even more.

The MG is about 1/2m longer than the Crosstar and a bit wider, should overall size be a consideration. It is for me but I recall that you've driven some large vehicle in your time.

After double-deckers, size doesn't matter, but the MG5 wouldn't fit in my garage (well, not without emptying all the junk that has gathered since I got rid of the Volvo). However, that would be the least of my problems as I have no charging at this house anyway. I will have to look closely at the financial situation between them and test driving them before I consider making a decision. The EV is the future, but the Crosstar is the stepping stone to a full EV.

I've also driven double deckers, in service in London, so size on the road isn't an issue. I'm just looking for convenience and I do prefer the Honda brand.

The latest Civic is too big for my needs, and garage, now but the Jazz 4 measures up fine. It was the Civic 8G in 2007 that was so wide I needed to have folding mirrors to get into the garage. All previous cars went in with open mirrors. Those cars included a Maestro, Xantias and a Lexus IS200.

At one point I was considering a Fiesta but when Ford retracted their intention to switch from Powershift to torque converter it got crossed off the list.
Let's be careful out there !

I had a Mk 2 before my Crosstar, when it was delivered recently it looked much bigger and I was concerned about getting it into the garage (despite checking the dimensions before I bought). However the footprint of the Crosstar in the garage is almost identical to the Mk 2 so the size must be an optical illusion due to the extra height.

Anyone got a photo of the Jazz and Crosstar next to one another? I would like to see the size comparison side by side.
Yet to see a Crosstar on the road, or even a Mk4 Jazz!

I've seen a few out on the road, but there again, I am doing considerable more miles than most.

To whoever was looking at the Jazz vs the MG5: the Jazz is a much safer car.

Even the MG5 is much safer than my current Jazz. If safety was a concern I wouldn't drive at all. I still want an EV and I am also looking at the Zoe.

The journalist Bob Flavin has released a Youtube video demonstrating some of the issues and frustrations of living with the MG EZ EV. Charging still looks like a kerfuffle at the moment. Intersting (anorak) fact, it has the VW Golf steering wheel according to Bob!

I o like the look of the Zoe. Mind you, small French cars are normally cool.  8)

No interest in the ZS. It is an SUV with limited range.
