Unusual (?) Front water leak at the A Pillar
« on: February 14, 2021, 05:54:51 PM »
Hi,

So I have a leak coming from the top of the nearside A pillar. (See attached photo).

Anyone seen this before?

I'm wondering if the front of the roof strip is sealed like the rear (where the common leak occurs)?
Otherwise I'm not sure how the water is getting in. I still have the original windscreen fitted.

There was a recent thread with a leak in the same place, but on the driver's side, IIRC. I'm not sure if they got to the bottom of it.

If you remove the plastic gutter trim and wipe it out, you might be able to see a crack in the sealant, it is usually obvious when it cracks at the tailgate end. Other possible sources are a leak from the radio antenna tracking across the inside of the roof, that's quite a common leak point, and also the windscreen bond in the corner.

Here's the other thread, it was on a mark 2

Another thing, have you got a sunroof? Detached or blocked sunroof drains are sometimes a problem.

Thanks for the info. I've had the rear leak. I need to go it again actually. I fixed it a couple years ago with a plumbers sealant, but it's started leaking again. No doubt I have similar cracks at the front.
