But will almost £19000 for a basic SE may put off traditional Jazz customers just adding metallic paint and a service package would put the price over £20000.

The lowest Mk4 grade seems to be SE.  The Mk3 SE CVT starts at £17340, although non-metallic colours no longer seem to be on offer, so in practice the list price is now £17840.  The MK 4 is therefore about £1000 more, assuming the SE spec is similar.  I expect at that price there will be enough early adopters to keep the dealers happy and to provide us with some reports of any practical problems arising.

I would want at least a year of them on the road before I get interested. And even then, it would be in an ex-demo or pre-registered vehicle. I plan on retiring in 2021 so the timing could work quite nicely for me.

I had been interested in the Crosstar due the claimed increased ride height but it seems it will be the top of the range and have a black roof (the optimum worst for heating in the sunshine). Roof rails also add to the drag (and CO2) so the marketing people haven't yet calculated the implications of the EU fine for excess CO2 on pricing. Maybe next year there will be more focus on getting the CO2 number down?

Just received a phone call from Listers Solihull to say that they now have the full specifications for the new Jazz. Unfortunately  due to other commitments I will not be able to visit them for a few days but I will keep checking the Honda uk website for any updates (nothing yet though).

Although nothing on the Honda website, Listers have the equipment lists for all four hybrid models on their website.

Unfortunately copying the link proved unsuccessful but go to listers.co.uk and use the search options for new + Honda + Jazz. This will bring up the current range but towards the bottom of the page you will see the new models. Don’t take too much notice of the tech info at this stage as it only refers to the petrol engine and ignores the electric motor.

Looking harder at the specs I notice that the headline mpg and CO2 are for the old testing regime (Directive 1999/100/EC).

For the Crossstar, the two versions of the numbers are old combined = 72.4 mpg, WLTP combined = 58.9 mpg and for CO2 old = 89 g/km and WLTP = 110 g/km. The "Extra high" WLTP test regime has a very significant adverse effect on the combined total. "High" = 68.9 mpg and "extra high" = 44.8 mpg. The corresponding numbers for the EX are 72.4 mpg and 47.9 mpg. Amble along a 60 mpg and the drive train is efficient whereas at 70 mph or more it evidently gets out of its comfort zone and becomes a gas guzzler.

Specs comparison between a 2020 Hybrid EX and a 2018 1.3 EX 6m.
I see a huge improvement in performance and consumption.
The hybrid top speed depends by the internal combustion engine, not by the electric motor, the 1.5 has more torque but less power than the 1.3.
The 1.5 is still an atkinson  L series, timing chain, 13.5:1 compression ratio as the 1.3 but with direct fuel injection.
The hybrid assembly should weight  about 250kg, maybe more if Honda made the new chassis lighter.
No trail admitted, as we can see.
Same fuel tank capacity, some luggage capacity less but the hybrid sould lose only the space under the luggage pavement.
I like it.

It's a pity there are no parking sensors in the SE version, but perhaps they'll come back at the first update, or it could be a bargaining point with the dealer.  I'm sure the wiring will be there.  It looks as though fuel savings of over 25% will be readily achievable, which is an attractive prospect.
