Title: Oil jazz hybrid 2011
Post by: Jazzhybrid2011 on June 12, 2023, 04:02:20 PM

Hello, I wanted to know if someone changed the oil level, I recently had a 2011 jazz hybrid and they always put 5w40 on it, it has 96,000 miles and I think 0w20 would be healthier, but I'm afraid of consumption. Would it be a problem to go back in case of consuming a lot of oil?

thank you so much

Assuming that 5w40 is the correct grade of oil that Honda intended for their engine (I haven't checked) what is it that you distrust about their judgement?

The difference between 5W40 and 0W20 is large. Honda original hybrid oil is even 0W16  :o. You might want to use 0W30 or 5W30 and check whether oil is consumed or not.
You are in a good climate: no real cold so the oil will not be too thick even at a cold start!

honda recommends honda green oil, it should be like a 0w16 or 0w20

I think it would be a good idea to take the first step to 0w30 and if consumption is not appreciated, go to 0w20. I think that in 2011 here in Spain that oil was difficult and expensive, so they put 5w40 on it cheaper and more common. always in official service.

Honda obviously recommends its own oil, but prices have become utterly ridiculous.

To give you an idea, the cheapest I can see 4 litres of Honda Green Oil delivered is £63.44, which is £15.86 a litre. I have been using MOTUL 0w-20 Hybrid oil which I buy from Opie Oils for £46.90 including delivery (they also sometimes do 10% off). Anyway, this is equivalent to £11.73 a litre.

The £4 saving or a so a litre is not massive, but Honda's prices have become absurd and there are some fantastic oils available which do just a good a job, if not better (MOTUL are one of the leaders in car lubricants and oils globally).

I don't know what you can buy in Spain and the cost but if you can't get MOTUL's 0w-20 Hybrid oil, a good quality fully synthetic 5w-30 would be idea, especially given your mileage.
