Ended up with this one..
« on: October 21, 2018, 04:43:34 PM »
Just agreed on a Jazz EX Auto Orange done just over 1000miles 18 reg. Didn't realise the tax is 140 quid. I thought it was 30 quid. I think this is because it's a VTec (whatever that is)! Am I right?

Thanks.

Not VTEC, the tax rates changed about a year ago, most petrol and diesel cars are £140 now.

No - it's because the new tax regime came in April 2017 and only electric cars are now exempt from road tax - almost every other car has to pay a minimum of £140.

I pay £30 per annum because the car was registered on 31st March 2017 - a day later and I'd be paying £140.

Oh, cheers all. I'll rub ointment on the wound and get on with life then. I guess the VTEC is due to the SatNav stuff. I am looking forward to playing music from my iPod Nano though.

Ah so. Well even with VTiming I am expecting the stated mpg to be actually less by some 8mpg.

Depends how you drive. I beat the figures given for my Mk 1, on a regular basis.

But manufacturers weren't gaming the system so much when the Mk 1 was released. Purchasers expect the newer models to be more fuel-efficient so the manufacturers tweak the hardware and software to give better numbers in the standard tests. Some of these improvements carry through to the real life usage. Some don't. Honest John's real mpg https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/realmpg/honda/ shows this trend although it's small with the Jazz. Also, you are likely to see reduced mpg during the winter months but the numbers will improve once spring is here.
