One new tyre
« on: January 25, 2020, 12:56:18 PM »
After a puncture ONE front tyre had to be replaced with a Dunlop rather than the original Michelin Energy Saver.
Since then I have had trouble getting the Tyre Deflation  Warning System calibrated.
Looking back on the posts in this forum it looks like I will have to get the other front one changed as well.
Is this correct

Sadly it does seem that if there is a significant difference in the wear between the two tyres on the same axle, problems may be expected. My Honda dealer gave me a user guide to the deflation warning system which states “Failure to replace tyres in pairs may result in false activation of the iDWS due to a difference in tyre size”.

A new tyre may take time to bed in, in which case the problem may resolve itself in due course.  I had a number of false alarms when the car was new, but it settled down.  However, it's probably not advisable to drive on unmatched tyres.

I had the puncture nearly outside my house so had a mobile fitter change the tyre. As it was only one tyre and not two I had to pay for fitting.
Now if I get the other side changed I will have to pay for fitting again.
If i had been made aware of the problem with the IWS I would have had both tyres changed at the time WITH FREE FITTING
HUMP!!!

I tried the initialise and driven for about 45mins about a dozen times now and still the warning comes up the next time i drive.
Change of road surface seems to set the alarm off

Next step would be a code reader try and reset it and erase previous error codes

Same here.

It might well settle down as it becomes "used to" the new configuration. My system "repaired" itself after 3 successive false alarms soon after I got the car. I am getting a new Jazz next week - I am braced for the same issue!

For the cost of getting a code read at a dealer I might as well get a new tyre

I dont think it will reset  as the wheel with new tyre will always rotate slower than the other wheel on the axle

If you have another new tyre, and the old one still has some tread left, save it for when you get another puncture in a half worn tyre!

To be honest, these TPMS efforts sound like more trouble than they're worth.

You could try (if you are able) switching the tyre position to mate it up with a less worn tyre on the same axle so the tyre diameters are closer, this may reduce the difference enough that it doesn't set off the alerts.

At the time I was thinking to get both fronts changed as it would have been free fitting but decided to get just the one and pay for fitting. BIG MISTAKE
