The battery meter should normally fluctuate between 3 and 7 bars

It depends much by the context you drive in.
In urban plain context, it fluctuates from 3 to 4, it may just reach 5 if you have a good brake when it's 4.
If you drive at 70 km/h (45 mph), in plain, it fluctuates from 3 to 6.
But if you climb a hill, engine is always on and battery may get up to 8 bars, even without braking.
In downhill, when braking, battery can get up to 10 bars, obviously.

...and in cold weather, starting after a cold start, heating on, the ICE is constantly working to keep us warm. But it also fills the battery and we see (at least I see) rather often 10 bars!
If nothing goes right, go left!

In that condition, when the engine is warming because of the heating, the engine does not charge the battery, it produces only the current necessary to move the car. So, the battery is not used, but is filled only with the brakes, and if you brake quite often, battery may reach 10 bars. But it's not the engine that charges during warming. The engine charges the battery only during the first minute, with any temperature and without heating on too.

Latest fill update, "winter" effect Still evident, and this fill only 18 days after previous - due to logistical reasons caused by road diversions.  this fill like the last also combined with motorway running (only about 1 1/2 hrs this time) with speed set a 73mph. average overall dipping with these.

At todays fill though ambient temperature up to 14 degC so hoping for reducing winter effect prior to next fill.

I did a round trip of 16 miles a few summers ago

Mostly 30mph with some 40mph sections

When I got home it was reading 119mpg
Let's be careful out there !

Some truly impressive figures your Lordship!
Especially considering the distances involved!
(pray tell me where do I find that 500 miles downhill-slope?) :D

In all ernest: This shows the formidable engineering Honda did and what an anticipatory driver can achieve with the car.
I've done a 70 miles round-trip drive today (with 300m elevation difference) and a maximum speed of 63mph ending up with the fibometer telling me 3.1 L/100km or 91 mpg.

imho speed is the worst enemy of the fuel-conscious driver! (which is why I'm looking for information about the actual drag coefficient and front area of our modern Jazzes)

IIRC  it was from Reutte at the top of the Fern pass in Austria, down  to Innsbruck, over the Brenner pass to Verona then across the Po valley plain. All on A roads rather than motorways, happy to cruise at the prevailing speed of other traffic ,seldom overtaking or being overtaken. Ideal conditions for good mpg, and saved on  motorway tolls, vignettes etc.  But necessitated an extra overnight stop  somewhere scenic with all that eating and drinking.   :D

The latest check today, shows 6239 miles, since June 24 at an overall average consumption, which obviously includes the Winter period, of 67.2 Mpg, which I’m very happy with.
Normally travel with air con set to Auto 20 degrees, plus in cold weather I use the heated seats and steering wheel for a couple on minutes.  ;D
