Honda Jazz Advance Sport Hev 2024 - speed alarm
« on: June 26, 2024, 12:56:31 PM »
Hi, is it possible to turn off the speed alarm that is linked to the sign recognition system?

The manual says you can but the option is missing when I follow the instructions.

I don't intend to speed but sometimes it is necessary to go slightly above the speed limit - getting around bikes etc.  It starts beeping as soon as I do even 32mph in a 30mph zone.

It is irritating me no end.

Can anyone help?

You can not turn it permanently off, you have to do it every journey, that is to meet the regulation for the system.

Its in the vehicle setting > Meter setup > Traffic sign recognition system display and you change it to none from display.

Otherwise you can turn the beep volume down, thou that is for all meter sounds including parking sensors, indicators etc.  That's Alarm Volume control in the same menu, its default is mid.

I have an Advance Sport and don't get a beep connected to the speed limit (never have) so there must be a way of switching off

This will be only on the very latest 25 Year model vehicles, from around the beginning of April. VIN code S in the tenth character. They also have a change to the navigation app, this is no longer Garmin, but HERE navigation to support the change in the Traffic Sign Recognition system. It include Internet connected IP traffic, the same as other current Honda models.

While our 2020 Jazz was in for brake repairs they gave us a CR-V courtesy car, I hated the annoying beep.

Try this... https://www.civinfo.com/threads/50mph-warning.64540/

I hope it works because we might be upgrading in a year or two.

Don't confuse the existing, user configurable, speed alarms with this new mandatory beeping

What must be highly annoying is across Wales for example where 20mph is the norm ....... and try staying at 20 and below, very difficult

Beep beep beep beep
Let's be careful out there !

Thank you for this.  I tried setting the traffic sign recognition display to 'off' today and it does work.  But, as you say, it has to be done for every journey.

I checked the VIN number of the car and it does have an 'S' in the position that you stated.

I think this is a real issue and I would not have bought the car if I'd known it had this 'feature'.  It's a deal breaker as far as I am concerned.  It may not sound much but it is very, very annoying.

From 1st July it is a mandatory legal requirement to have some sort of "intelligent" speed limiter on new cars, see this:
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/content/news/mandatory-speed-limiters-on-uk-cars-from-2022
So it's not a Honda thing, you can't avoid it by buying a car from another marque. It looks like manufacturers have some leeway about exactly how they implement it.

It's very distracting and potentially dangerous and completely unnecessary imo, I'm sure loss of sales will persuade honda to change it.

Could a OBD scanner change the settings?

In other countries you can set the alarm at +0, 3, 5 or 10 km above the posted limit. So Honda does have this available. It just isn’t allowed in most of Europe…

Have just taken delivery of my 3rd Mk4 Advance and yes, I’m also finding the audio speed alarm ‘bloody annoying’
Prior to purchase I asked the question, Was there any technical difference between the new and old car? and was assured that no, it was identical.

All I’ve managed to do so far, is to turn the warning volume down in the vehicle settings

I understand the change in regulations is down to EU law and ALL new cars are affected from 7th July onwards, so buying any other brand of car, is not an option.

I just wonder whether the fact that mine was actually delivered prior to that date, would enable me to have the audio warning disabled? I guess if I did then the insurance company might have something to say?

So for the moment it is ‘Warning volume Down, Radio volume Up’. If anyone has a better idea, please let us all know.

Could someone describe how this works? I understand that if you exceed whatever the car thinks the limit is (which is not going to be 100% accurate all the time) you get an audible alarm. But what happens then? Does the beeping continue untill you drop below the limit, or does it stop after a while? Does the system prevent you opening the throttle further, can you override it by flooring the pedal? Does it operate the same way as the previous "intelligent" speed limiter, with the only difference being it's On by default, rather than Off by default previously?

As far as I know (Civic instead of Jazz), it gives 3 short beeps when going 1 mph or 1 kmph over the limit it reads from posted signs (so no gps involved). Also the limit in the display flashes a few times.
That’s it. No effect on available power, no limitations, no further beeps unless you slow down and cross the limit when accelerating again.

It is 'on' by default and there isn't an 'off' default.  So you have no choice but for it to be 'on'.  I've got around it by turning the 'traffic recognition display' camera to off position (how to do it is described in one of the earlier posts), but it only lasts for one journey (or until you turn the engine off) and then it has to be reset to off next time you start the engine.
I imagine that the ability to turn the camera off (and thus stifle the annoying beeps) is an oversight by Honda.  Although inconvenient it is at least a way to turn off the beeps, I just hope that Honda don't find out about this workaround.
As far as I understand it it keeps beeping until you drop to the speed limit.  I don't know what it would do it you floored the pedal.
