10 year report
« on: March 01, 2017, 08:53:51 PM »
Well I can't believe 10 years have gone by since buying my jazz from new back in 2007.

Currently I am showing 50k miles from new and it has been completely reliable so far......

In that time apart from regular service items I have had a set of tyres fitted, front brake discs and pads (Honda), battery (Honda) but still the same exhaust system and no light bulbs required so far. Even the battery in the remote is still showing 3 volts!

How can you tell where your car was built?

If the VIN starts with a J its Japanese, S made in britain and L is Chinese.

Regardless of where it was made, this is an impressive record for both the car and its owner. Well done.

That is the kind of information Auto Express would never print about a non-German car.

My 1996 Civic which I had from 6 months old (the one that shared body with Rover 400) did 185,000 miles in 10 years and only needed service items (brake pads, new front discs x 1 set,  new brake shoes (although originals lasted 110K) spark plugs, a couple of batteries, cam belt every 60K, aux drive belt)  still had original clutch, wheel bearings (had taper roller bearings and they did more than 40K in those days - good for life of car), alternator etc. etc.  IMHO much better built than modern Civic,  even had unequal link double wishbone suspension,  a very strong system, never needed re-tracking and tyres wore absolutely evenly.

When I traded it in for first Jazz was still not using a drop of oil between changes and emissions were towards bottom of allowable limits,  engine was still perfect,  only the rear wheel arch rust let it down.

Some people will only consider you an expert if they agree with your point of view or advice,  when you give them advice they don't like they consider you an idiot

My Jazz has covered 76,000 miles and is almost ten years old. Other than tyres and service items I've replaced:

Pads front - 31k and 68k.
Pads rear - 57k and 68k
Exhaust mid section - 9yrs old
Nearside rear brake caliper - 72k (sadly shortened the life of the rear pads hence two sets of replacements).
Battery - 7.5yrs.
Electric mirror adjustment switch, 2nd hand off ebay - 4yrs (driver's side wouldn't adjust but the folding and heating worked - 99.9% certain it was caused by a bodyshop during a repair).
Fuse for climate control and mirror adjustment - 4yrs (blew after body repair that also cooked the mirror switch).
Rear numberplate bulb was replaced last week.

Also...

Boot leaks - since 7.5yrs old.
Half of the radio and climate controls are not backlit at night - 5-8yrs old.
Advisory at MoT in '16 and '14 for anti-roll bar dust split but not letting in dust - will replace if I've still got the car by next MoT.

Still on the original discs.
