Just to add a bit of info this is my wired solution :

From phone just a small bit visible :

Same at the other end :

And my preferred SatNav, Google Maps in satellite view :

Let's be careful out there !

Google Maps in satellite view looks great

So far I’ve only used the in-built sat nav and found it to work extremely well

I have a reliable wireless Apple CarPlay connection so I might try Google Maps next time

True.  The voice activated control systems are constantly listening and could know someone is a bit of a gasbag.  But how does it know its the passenger ?   ;D
My IQ test came back negative

Today the car decided it's not starting Android Auto even though it recognises the phone and when using the wired connection, it's done this before and repairs itself a few days later, weird!!. Does a new Jazz have any problems with Android Auto?

How much data does satellite view use and doesn’t the data transfer rate hinder the gps real time location ie: time lag between actual position and indicated position on display?

I find already that there is a time lag just using Waze or Google maps in basic display modes anyway!

TIA

Having used Google Maps navigation in satellite view many times whilst exploring Reading I can say the GPS location is spot on, no lag

As for data, it uses very little as my monthly usage is tiny, even adding the time I spend out playing with the phone on bus journeys
Let's be careful out there !

For those who've had trouble with Android auto occasionally not starting, its helpful to check that the inbuilt Garmin GPS is up and running, as Android / Google could be configured to use the car GPS not phone GPS.  This is what ive found once or twice.  Once inbuilt sat nav is up and running , Google Maps or Waze will connect utilising the car GPS
