Just an observation that I’d not picked up on in 3 years of ownership…. Looking at the central instrument binnacle its design appears to have been made to potentially accommodate 3 different sizes of display.

Unfortunately, we seem to have been left with the smallest option.

(You’ll need to log in to see attached pic or look at your own !)

What do other folks think?

sorry, off-topic:  I think your anti-glare dash cover is nifty!  (what is it?)

One of these https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CWV9SMNB. I had one waiting to put in my new Jazz once I had got it home from the dealers as I knew from past experience that the glare would be a problem. It makes a big improvement. Being available on Amazon indicates that there's a demand for them.

Thank you!
I'm a bit concerned about covering the passenger air bag area though.
(probably I would cut the cover to leave that area bare as the most annoying glare exists directly in front of the driver)

I've had a closer look at that area but struggle to figure out where the passenger airbag emerges without blowing the dashboard upwards. Whatever happens, and I hope I won't find out, I reckon the mat won't interfere with the airbag operation as it has to inflate towards the front seat.

I think the passenger airbag is hidden beneath the  dashtop.(drivers side is in the steering wheel)  On activation it explodes with enough force to burst through the dashtop vinyl covering .Indeed there are reports of deploying airbags causing injury, which is why they warn against affixing things such as medalions, air fresheners etc  which can become  projectiles  .And why they can be switched off for  rear facing child seats etc.

I think it would probably also lift that mat quite easily. I dont think the  mat would be propelled forward.
But I wouldn't want to test it   ;D

I did experiment with various dark  fabrics, felt, etc   on a previous car.  I found that many  still  gave a surprising amount of glare. A black bath towel worked quite well, but quite untidy .  Does this carpet type fabric work well?

I currently make do with polarised sunglasses which work quite well.  No polarising stresses on the windscreen and only slight on  less important glass  such as the front quarter windows. .

In a similar vein I've seen posts where owners have fitted tight front seat covers

Not a good idea these days as many seats have built in side airbags

I've yet to see a 'You've been Framed' with one going off
Let's be careful out there !

This mat has eliminated the glare problem much more than I expected and I have been out in sunny weather. I keep a pair of clip-on flip-up polaroid over specs in the car which I'll use in bright weather. The challenge is remembering to put them on before I start moving.

I'm now experimenting with three cheap black neoprene mouse pads (20 by 22 cm and only 3 mm thick).
They cover the space in front of the driver nicely.

I've only laid them out this evening with the sun already quite low so I can't yet say anything.

I'd be cautious of the neoprene melting if the car is left in full summer heat. Even if its mostly resistant to heat  long exposure might have some unwelcome side effects.

I did consider trying non reflective photography backdrop fabric. But I  never got round to it ,partly because it didnt make sense spending good money trying to find an alternative to a purpose made product.

I'm not concerned about neoprene melting as it isn't a thermoplast and able to withstand temperatures of 100° C (shortly even up to 130° C). This stuff is even used for pot holders because of its insulation capacity and heat resistance.

As for the the mouse pads: They indeed make quite a difference!
I never realised quite how much of glare there is from dashboard reflection up until now.

Of course the custom fit dash covers look quite nifty!
And I'm also positive the passenger airbag will go off with enough force to be able to lift them.
However, the dash cover might just hinder or deflect it enough to prevent its full or correct deployment.
Of course I heartily wish you will never have to find out the answer to this one!
