Buying a second hand Jazz
« on: March 06, 2014, 09:53:56 AM »
Hi,

New member. About to go and take the plunge on buying a second Honda Jazz.

here is the Ad:

Insurance Group 12, HONDA JAZZ S 1.2ltr, 5 door, 05, 55 reg, Power Steering, Central Locking, Electric Windows, metallic blue, 1 owner, Full Service History, long MOT, taxed, excellent condition. £2,250 Tel: 0xxxxxxxx,CENTRAL LOCKING, ELECTRIC WINDOWS, METALLIC PAINT, POWER STEERING, SERVICE HISTORY

No pics but ive seen it and it looks fine. ive had a drive and it sounds fine. it has full service history from a Honda dealer.

My question is: When i go back for my second look today is there anything i should be specifically looking for? Known faults or corrosion points?

Thanks in advance.

If from a dealer then ask to speak to the previous owner, the £ can be squeezed further. If private you do not have the come back on a trader make sure you verify the vehicle HPI or Experian check first. Consider checking the SH with the dealer.
Negotiate hard before handing over £'s . There are 100's of used cars around at present time.
Check for any paintwork or accident damage never give cash without first  HPI/Experian checks
Good luck finding your ideal Jazz.

Thank you.

Do you think there is anything mechanical or corrosion wise i need to inspect.

What are the common faults?

Take it for a drive and make sure you are happy with the steering. also search this forum, there have been a few issues with rear wheel bearings and gearbox bearings. I have had 2 Jasses over the last 7 years and not had a problem with either of them.

Check for leaks into the boot and corrosion around rear suspension mountings, door tops and bottoms,  radiator wear (fins fall off with age), coolant leaks, suspension noises, worn and rusty disks - especially the rear. (All signs of a hard life- but rareish)

If it does not have a service history and looks at all neglected run away. Lots more to see.

Tyres should be good (bad = neglect). Oil should be clean.  Check exhaust for rust. MOT for advisories.

Just to add to the above.

Water leaks are quite common - check under spare wheel in boot and rear passenger foot well area - feel carpet.

Check for sluggish acceleration, indicative of egr fault.

It doesn't have air con, so give that some thought.
