Rear Door Removal and Replacement?
« on: August 10, 2023, 12:46:09 PM »
Our 2006 Honda Jazz was bashed by a lady turning her car around, the damage is limited to the door thankfully.

She has admitted liability but in order to keep the repair costs down for her, I was thinking about picking up a replacement door and getting a pal with a body shop to fit and make it look as good as the original.

Is the removal of the door a fairly simply task? I'm quite mechanically inclined overall but just looking for some personal experiences and feedback.

Doors are normally just 4 large screws (may need an impact driver to start them). Scribe around the hinges before you take the old one off and that more or less ensures the new one lines up.

Worth waiting for correct colour and spec EG rear speakers, rather than respray & match.
I always ask the breakers yard to confirm or photo the colour number plate before buying travelling. Good luck.

Was actually very easy to remove the rear door.

There's 4 x 12mm bolts, came out with socket wrench very easily.

Then there's also the stay to stop the door folding back and I think that might also have been a 12mm bolt

Then you unclip the electrical connector by pushing down a small tongue and pulling apart.

Would take less than 5 mins to remove the rear door, assuming no seized fasteners.

Can I ask how much the replacement cost and if the door lock operated normally with the central locking?

Reason I ask is this might be the simplest way of fixing the sticking rear door catch problem.

Pleased to hear you got it sorted. :D

How difficult was it to line up the new door? Did you use the Jocko method?

Both the off side doors of my Jazz are dented, so plan to replace at some point.

Dont forget that scrap yards often prefer to sell a whole door rather than spend time stripping it for parts ,leaving it incomplete.      You may find ready customers for many  smaller parts from the damaged door (s) that are easy to remove and post.    You could make a profit  :-*

The door was £50 and came complete with everything.

Everything working perfectly, electric window, central locking etc.

I removed and reinstalled the door this morning - took all of 10 minutes. Spent more time concentrating on getting the rubber bung out of the B pillar for the electrical connector to be honest.

A pal of mine that sells classic cars, happened to pop in at the same time and said the door should self align due to the bolt shoulders. He was absolutely correct, door alignment is spot on without any fiddling around.

I've got a complete serviceable door that looks in better nick than half the doors I looked at one eBay for over £100  :D

Door card is perfect, central locking, electric window function and connector all in great shape.
