Once you've got the door panel off there will be a plastic film to pull back. You will also have to disconnect the wiring plug and the cable may be clipped to the bodywork
.
There are three nuts on the end of the pins holding the wing mirror on. Be prepared to drop some of the nuts in the bottom of the door. A magnet on the end of a long flexible rod will come in handy. If you can't borrow one they're not too expensive to buy. Halfords sell them for one.

Hi - I have a 2004 Jazz Ice Blue and since about a year now have had paint bubbling and peeling off both wing mirrors.... I have been stalking other ice blue Jazzes of the same year (!! lol) and it seems to be a general problem. I haven't seen the same problem on other colours, yet.

I absolutely definitely KNOW it is not a stone chip problem (paint coming off BACK of wing wirror holder) and the bubbling underneath the paint prior to peeling off is a sure clue it is a manufacture prob, originating from either the paint or the base. I've had this confirmed by a bodywork specialist who quoted me +/- 250 GBP to get it properly redone !!
I don't think I (or any of you) I should have to pay for this and think Honda should pay for, or atleast accept responsibility and show commercial willing. So far I haven't had any luck.

I'm thinking if there are more of you out there with the same prob we could start up some sort of a petition and get Honda to listen.....  so anyone out there?   ;D

Also 2003 1.4 SE, ice blue. Owned from new. Bought in Bristol. Started peeling at around 5 years.
Local Honda shop didn't want to know.

I have right hand drive Ice Blue 2004, with wingmirror paint peeling too.
Started when Jazz was +/- 5 yrs old....

Am going to write to big boss at Honda (either UK or France), there is OBVIOUSLY a common production fault.
Will keep y'all informed...

If they don't then maybe Watchodg will....?

Will keep y'all informed... wish me luck !!

I have a 2004 Honda Jazz bought as new. The paint around the arms of the right wing mirror suddenly started to bubble and flake and now I just have a horrible 'white' plastic arm. The passenger side arm is also bubbling but not yet flaking. I went to the dealership yesterday and they quoted me £80 +VAT for a WHOLE DAY's work and NO replacement vehicle. I came home and saw your forum so immediately got on the phone to Honda. They were very coy about the problem and asked me if I was complaining or enquiring..I decided to 'complain' and feel (as many of you do on the forum) that Honda should pay for the respray. I wanted a guarantee from them that IF I paid for the paintwork, would it happen again? They have referred my case to Customer Relations Dept. Watch this space!

I have a 2003 1.4 SE Jazz and mine has been peeling for a while now. My mechanic said about 4 years ago to let it all come off before he would repsray it. I have been looking in supermarket car parks and almost every blue jazz from 2002-2004 has the same problem. I have started to note reg numbers. Can anyone start a Facebook page, there may be many, many blue Jazz's out there and yes it was a fault of that model so not fair we should have to pay for it!

fwiw, I don't think the issue is just confined to blue cars.  Someone I know has a metallic green 2002 with the same problem.

TBH, it's unlikely Honda will want to do anything about it for any cars more than 6 years old.  Also the issue is not safety related.

The fellow who attends to our shop's cars and lorries bodywork says the key, if you like, to spraying plastic parts like wing-mirrors and bumpers is the correct preparation and correct undercoat.  He does not spray a colour coat on first, but a PVC etching primer after of course thoroughly sanding and cleaning the area.  He also said that the colour code for all modern cars can be obtained quite easily and apart from red, which fades after a few years, from commercial automotive paint suppliers who will supply from 1 litre of the correct tint and shade from stock. They all have computers which will sort out the colour in a few seconds.
