Title: Summer and sunshine
Post by: trebor1652 on July 22, 2016, 10:07:05 AM
Now that we are getting some sunshine the need for a windscreen sun visor has arisen, but can I find one to fit the mk3 windscreen, they are either to wide or to shallow.
So guys has anyone got any ideas where I might find one.

Maybe import a custom/tailored fit one from a sunnier clime, or get to work with scissors and some foil bubblewrap?

Depends on your weighting of cost vs effort.

Good idea Eddie Honda I have some radiator backing foil/bubble wrap but of course it has no strength to it, so I will have to scratch the wooden block on my shoulders and try to come up with some ideas to keep it in place.

How about a cardboard backing board of sorts. Ask nicely down at Halfords for a freebie cardboard box that bicycles come in next time they have one available. A side of that might do a windscreen sort of area and they are usually double corrugated.

For something lighter, loiter around Currys for a telly box.

used to live in Oz and found the following....

As long as the visor goes at least halfway / two thirds  up and covers the dash area it should be effective as it is the sun on the dark dash plastic that heats up the car.  The metalised ones fitted to outside and held in place by closing the cars doors on their flaps are pretty good (but if they are plastic they can 'sweat' plasticizer onto the screen surface creating a 'haze' and it isn't easy to get screen clean after) ,  or failing that just cover the dash with a light coloured cloth (like a cotton towel).
