high revving when cold
« on: November 29, 2017, 06:52:47 PM »
On starting the wife's Fit/jazz revs at 1800 rpm, far to high in my book, anyone got ideas on how to moderate this behavior? When warmed up rpm is 600/700.

Fast idle when cold is specified as 1500 ±200rpm, warm 650 ±50rpm (manual) / 750± (CVT) so it's a little high initially.  If your car has an electronic throttle body then this is monitored & controlled by the ECU although there are a bunch of sensors that could affect this.

It doesn't sound too far out.

Seems a bit odd at first. Ours sounds fast when it's really cold, but it's probably near the 1500rpm mark.

Checked my tick over rpm this morning, using the ScanGauge. On initial start up it was 1600 rpm, but as soon as I was out of garage it settled at 1100 rpm (sitting for almost 24 hours, unheated garage - frosty outside). Once I was off on the road it dropped back to 900 rpm before blue light went out, and by the time I had returned back to the garage it had settled to a steady 790 rpm. I have no idea what it will settle out to when fully heated through, but I will check that tomorrow, after my usual 40 mile run over to Danderhall.
I have never paid a lot of attention to rpm as the Jazz rev counter, especially at low revs, could hardly be classed as a precision instrument.

After an hours driving the tick over was 730 rpm. Manual says 700 +/- 50 rpm for the 1.2 litre engine.
