Jazz headbolts
« on: November 17, 2023, 12:16:15 AM »
Just fitting new exhaust valves in my 2003 jazz 1.4.
Headbolts,do these need renewing or can the old ones be reused, with another tightening procedure.

Cheers

NEW head bolts, always new.
They are designed to stretch when correctly torqued down and as such are single use only.
Also they need tightening in the correct order, you can't just start at finish where you want.

Yeah, I'd have said new bolts, as I think they stretch. That said, just had a read of the MK2 manual, and it states a new head gasket must be fitted, but no mention of new head bolts? https://hondafitjazz.com/manual3/index.html

I'd say new head bolts.  It may be tempting to economise on a 20 year old engine,  but a head gasket coolant leak could trash the engine, and a catastrophic engine failure can be a safety issue.

A quick check on line shows  loads of listing for new head bolts. For a reason?
