Slow pulling away?
« on: October 12, 2016, 09:08:58 PM »
Hi,
My 2011 jazz cvt seems to be a bit slow off the mark when trying to fight my way onto a roundabout etc. Its ok once its moving its just a bit slow initially when its on the torque converter. Is this a feature of the model😊 or do I have a problem? Cvt  oil was changed 6 months ago,
Chris

While I do have separate issues with the CVT on mine, pulling away quickly is not one of them. I always feel like the Jazz needs the pedal to be pressed quite far down to do anything at all though.

If I had any complaint about the CVT it is that. There always appears to be a lag between pressing the throttle and any movement. Ok most of the time but annoying when you want to move off smartly.

I have a 2011 CVT and can find no fault with throttle response. The quicker you want to pull away the wider you need to open the throttle, you can always back the throttle off as the speed increases.

Well I for one am in some agreement here. I'll confess here and now that I had to do some re-learning on CVT driving.
My last Jazz was a 2014 1.4 manual, I switched to CVT this year and found it 'sluggish' at first, still trying to drive it like the manual.
IMO and experience the CVT loves to be 'driven', get the right foot down (smoothly mind), wind them revs up. No problem getting away now and the eco lights never go off green (not that Im too bothered about them), I just enjoy driving it.

I had a CVT Yaris, (63 reg). It would always climb a local hill, at 40mph/ 1,500revs.

Swapping to the present, (15 reg) CVT Jazz. ("Same" car, different manufacturer)..... I immediately noticed a distinctly lethargic take off. The local hill is climbed at 40mph/ 2000rpm.
David.
Drive them 'til the roads wear out.......

For fast getaways I engage S.. and switch to P on the move,

In normal driving, I drive like I am balancing eggs...
