Personalised Number Plates
« on: May 04, 2023, 05:16:39 PM »
I used to think that these were a bit naff. I had the same attitude to them as I did to tattoos - just not for me.

Neighbour has got personalised plates on his work van and has just bought some for his wife's new car.

Suddenly I'm thinking, I wouldn't mind a set myself. I've found a few that would cost about £400 all in and feature my initials.

Then I'm thinking, won't they look stupid on a small car like a Jazz?

Anybody on here got a personalised plate? Other opinions, for and against welcomed - don't hold back ;D

Had personal plates since the mk1.
My initials and the wife's initials, the number was the year of the mk1.
Don't forget, you can make the car look older but not younger.

My neighbour has his and her plates
They are :
D1 DNT
D1 DSO

It will be alright in the end, if it's not alright then it's not the end !

I've had mine for 22 years next week. The Fabia is the fourth car they have been on.

Have them on our jazz, find it's easier to remember. Wouldn't pay a fortune for them though.

I bought mine direct from the DVLA for £250 and this included the cost of installing on the first car. After that, it costs £80 if you change it to another vehicle.

Each to their own and all, but no way would I put personal plates on my motors. They get reg numbers for free, and the govt get enough tax already. As for making your car stand out? They do, but not necessarily in a good way! I'm very happy to keep the issued plate and blend into the crowd.  8)

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I'm going to put my proposal to the sternest test yet - my oldest daughter. Hoots of derision from that quarter might see me shelving the idea :)

Interestingly my current plate already contains my wife's initials - purely by chance.

Bought my Jazz when 6 months old and prior owners personalised plate. As I do not care, and changing costs money, it stays.

Cheaper to change your name to match the registration of your car.

Several years ago, on a trip to New Zealand, we were surprised that one of our hire cars included my wife's name on the plate. I thought they arranged it like that for everyone ...
