Set to make it's public debut at this October's Paris Motor Show, the Insight concept previews Honda's new hybrid family car due to go on sale in spring 2009, for around £13.5-£15k. The production 5-door hatchback will be cheaper then the saloon-based Civic Hybrid and will be the most affordable hybrid yet - at least until the Jazz hybrid arrives in late 2009 or 2010. Built at Honda's Suzuka factory, the new hybrid is part of Honda's move towards hybrids for smaller cars as opposed to diesel power for larger models.
It will be interesting to see how the 'Insight' and Jazz hybrid will fit in Honda's range alongside the £13,000 (est) new Jazz I-SHIFT and the £17,145 Civic Hybrid. Although demand for the automatic Civic Hybrid is strong, the car's appeal here in the UK is limited as buyers at this end of the market (unlike in the United States) prefer hatchbacks with manual transmisson, although comfort is taken from Toyota's higher list prices for the hatchback Prius.
So expect to Honda to shift plenty of Insights.
