Just done first big trip in my Hybrid ... very pleased with it. The computer indicated 62.9mpg for a long (mainly motorway) trip - checking that against actual fuel at the next fill up  indicates a true consumption nearer 60mpg.

As a side issue - anyone know what these symbols (the key and the two arrows) on the previous trips mpg display mean ?

The mpg indicated is for each journey, and I believe that is what the icons are indicating.

Thanks Ozzie

What spec or year model/type do the compatible steel spare wheels come from? Spare wheel bag?

I presume that the spare you have is a Vauxhall one? also I might just check to see if the wifes '55 CVT-7 spacesaver is compatible - if anybody already knows - then shout up!

Also thanks for initiating the Hybrid section in the forum

Just an observation from an Insight owner. You can postpone uphill charging by shifting to S and selecting higher gears with the paddles. It prevents the CVT from compensating.

Before buying your Jazz Hybrid did anyone test drive the Toyota Auris? I would appreciate your comments.

A friend of ours has an Auris Hybrid which, although I haven't driven it myself, I've been front seat passenger in on a few occasions.
To be honest the experience almost put me completely off Hybrids. My friend's been getting the mid 50s mpg and the transmission noise, especially when pushed a bit, was quite off-putting. It also seemed rather err,,,Clunky.
As we were in the market for a new car I'd looked up all the bumf on Hybrids, including the Jazz but still wasn't convinced that the extra cost was justified.
We'd just about decided on a Jazz EX when we visited the Honda dealer but he had a Hybrid demonstrator which, almost as an afterthought, I was persuaded to take for a run.
To try and compare it to my experience in the Auris is close to likening chalk to cheese.
We ordered the Jazz Hybrid HS there and then, it arrived a week or so later and we haven't been disappointed in any way with our purchase....It's amazing.

It's also very wife and dog friendly. ;)

Oh yes, I've now got a very jealous Auris owning friend. Well, you gotta show off a bit don't cha? ;D

Haven't driven Auris or Honda Jazz Hybrid - but I must say that IMHO the Honda hybrids (and especially CRZ - which looks as though its moving even when standing still) have far nicer styling than the Toyota ones.
Some people will only consider you an expert if they agree with your point of view or advice,  when you give them advice they don't like they consider you an idiot

I did consider an Auris, but its around £22k which gives driving instructiors insurance prioblems, as insurance companies don't like us having tuition cars worth over £20k. Also I didn't think the extra £5000 was justified, although I didn't even drive it.

Haven't driven the Jazz Hybrid, or Auris but did compare driving  the Insight with Prius Mk2 and Mk3 so same drive trains.

My interest in the Auris Hybrid ended when I opened the boot in the Toyota showroom, thought "seriously?" and closed it again.  The Auris Hybrid would be very impractical as a family car due to the tiny boot (which is mostly invaded by the batteries).  It loses over 100 litres of boot space compared to the standard Auris.  The new Yaris Hybrid has a bigger boot than the Auris.

I kind of liked the two Toyota Priuses (Prii?), in a high quality appliance kind of way.  They seemed to make a lot of sense.  Thing was, I actually enjoyed driving the Insight, something that I can't say about the Toyotas.

Driving enjoyment on the Insight has the life sucked out of it by Econ mode and I assume the Jazz in the same.  Just press that inviting green button and the car is instantly transformed into a rubber-band powered dull-mobile (I suspect that's one reason why there were one or two overwhelmingly negative Insight reviews).  On any journey that doesn't make extensive use of autostop, I get better fuel economy in Normal mode anyway.  I own an Insight now but I think if I'd driven it first in Econ mode the impression would have been so bad that I might have just kept looking elsewhere.

Have driven the Jazz CVT (non hybrid), which was a very similar (if slower) experience to the Insight.  I prefer the Jazz for comfort and the Insight for handling.

Haven't driven the Jazz Hybrid . . . . . . Driving enjoyment on the Insight has the life sucked out of it by Econ mode and I assume the Jazz in the same.  Just press that inviting green button and the car is instantly transformed into a rubber-band powered dull-mobile.

Have driven the Jazz CVT (non hybrid), which was a very similar (if slower) experience to the Insight.  I prefer the Jazz for comfort and the Insight for handling.
I was nano-seconds from buying a Golf, playing one dealer off against another to decide which was the better one to buy, a 2 year old one with 5k on the clock, or a year old with 15k on the clock. Then VW revealed the service costs  :o :o :o :o :o

So then I visited Honda looking at the Civics, that was too impractical, lets look at the Jazz then prior to the Seat Leon test drive booked for 2 hours time. Never made it to Seat . . . . test drove standard Jazz, "Hmm OK", followed by the Hybrid, with a bit more go and a few more shiny bits, and ordered one there and then. The two Jazz cars are chalk and cheese, and even with learners driving we don't hang around at traffic lights, 0-40 is great, although after 40 progress slows, maybe I should turn the Eco off  ;D ;D ;D

I have read that using the Eco mode does not result in much better economy for most drivers as they tend to compensate for the duller performance my giving it more throttle.

I read an interview with one of the design team that worked on the Insight regarding Econ mode.

They were saying that Econ mode made a significant improvement to the fuel economy of inefficient drivers (mainly through having a higher regenerative braking and assist affinity) in urban traffic.  For those that were already driving efficiently (generally anticipating better and using brakes less) there was little to no improvement in using econ mode.
