Yes, really.

Adverts should only appear at the top and/or bottom of the page. The settings have now been tweaked.

Yes, really.

Adverts should only appear at the top and/or bottom of the page. The settings have now been tweaked.

Google has been using its own algorithm to work out where best to place the adverts but it appears not to be very reliable. It keeps putting ads where I explicitly asked it not to, so I suspect it treats each individual forum topic as a different page. I will need to experiment with the settings so the adverts may repear then disappear or move around the page from time to time. I might even set it up so that only guests (members that are not logged in) see most of the adverts.

... then widespread use of ad blockers seems likely to affect future viability of the Clubjazz site. That would be a pity. It’s a different story on sites where the ads seem to be intended to maximise profits, but on this one where the ads are needed in order to fund the site then I have no problem with just ignoring them!

Compared to other forums our running costs are low due to the fact we use a shared hosting package and the low traffic.

No such thing as a free lunch. But please not back to ads mid posts. I'd ad block it to death.

Post by: RichardA on December 04, 2022, 11:18:01 AM: The adverts were never ment to appear mid post but due to the nature of Google's ad algorithm it kept putting them there even when I asked it not to. I don't think it plays nice with the complex nature of how forum pages are served.

I might try one at the bottom of the page with maybe another one between the first and second posts for guests (not logged in).
