Hi Lewo,
Had new tyres fitted all round, Also changed tyre sizes with new alloys size change together. Originals where Dunlop 185/55r/16-83h and 16 inch alloys. Have now replaced with 15 inch alloys and put on Goodyear efficent grip 175/65r/15-84h. All this means i lost 1 inch in diameter on alloys and added 1 inch diameter on tyres. So you get correct speedometer reading on both tyres. Going for more smoother and quieter ride hope this helps.

I have the smaller 14 inch steel wheels, but have recently fitted Yokohama 175/65R14 Bluearth ES32, and I am very pleased with their grip, economy and price. Worth a look. About £70 from Black Circles for 185/55 R15.

I got 4 Kumho ES01 185 55 15's a  couple of thousand miles ago for £50 a wheel and have been happy with them. Ride, grip and noise all better than the old ones. Though they were rubbish no-names!

If you want something at the budget end, Infinity Ecosis are about the best of the cheap tyres, currently about £55 a pair, supply only. A bit more upmarket, Kuhmo EcoWing ES01 about £80 a pair. Not sure what you would pay fitted, probably another £20 a pair.

Yep, that's what I paid.

That's about bang on, I don't think you will buy them fitted any cheaper - the're not a lot less than £40 per tyre to the trade at the moment. Good tyres too.

Not particularly fuel efficient or quiet.

If you believe what's on the sticky labels, we'd all be using Chinese ditchfinders. This years ADAC test rated the Kuhmo's reasonably well, average for noise and good on fuel consumption and wear.

The Yokohamas are great too, but 20 quid a tyre dearer.

Don't overlook the cheap Infinity tyres either, they made last years AutoBild full summer tyre test by beating the Kuhmos, Michelins, Avons, and the Yokohama BluEarth in the preliminary wet/dry braking tests.

Exactly.

Nothing wrong with putting the best tyres you can afford on, just throwing some decent cheaper options in.

On the Chinese ditch finder theme, I often wonder how much credence you can give to the rating system. I've seen some cheap tyres with what seem to be half decent scores (no lower than C - often more) for handling in the wet and dry but I have seen the same tyres in YouTube videos giving really bad stopping distances.

Can you rely on the rating system?

Tyre testing is self certification by the manufacturers so that explain why bad tyres get a good rating.

That's why I say you can't believe anything on the stickers. There are rubbish Chinese tyres out there with AAA rating, there's even a brand called "Three-A".

Don't get me wrong, there are some perfectly good Chinese tyres out there, and people can get a bit too sniffy about cheap tyres - but choose carefully, there are some terrible ones too.

Thanks folks.
A local tyre place has the khumos for £55 a wheel fitted so I might go for those I think.
