Flexible sealant for door inner sheet.
« on: October 13, 2022, 01:44:09 PM »
Hi,

We've had an issue with a door leaking rain water into the car from what we assume is the inner door plastic sheeting, as it appears to have been moved when we had the door painted.
I've managed to remove the door panel and noticed two folds in the sheeting which may have been the culprits, I have pulled out and smoothed the kinks but the sealant is quite compressed in areas close to the drainage areas. This has resulted in the sheet being tighter to the door and holding water by surface tension like a sandwich.
I'm going to monitor it for leakage and may need to explore raising the gap by redoing the sealant and wonder if anyone knows what type Honda use please? It appears to have remained tacky after several years.

Thanks in advance.

I've used butyl rubber sealant for this in the past, it's the stuff used for garden pond liner sealing.
If you search eBay you'll find it, in a tube or bigger caulking gun tubes.

Thanks for info; fortunately, it seems to be okay at the moment.
