MIL again
« on: September 22, 2022, 01:18:30 PM »
Today while on the return leg of a short 2-mile trip to the vet, in the pouring rain, my Malfunction Indicator Lamp blinked on a few occasions. On parking up, in the drive, I interrogated my ScanGauge OBD reader (permanently attached) but no codes were stored. Think it might be near time to part with my Jazz, with an MOT looming in three months.

Have you checked your oil level recently?

The car doesn't use much oil, especially now I hardly go anywhere but I checked it a few weeks back and found my i-DSi badge had dropped off then again on Tuesday on return from my trek for my Covid booster.

Got to admit about 5 weeks after  having my stolen cat . sensors etc etc changed  mine developed a sparodic habit of engine light coming on for a few days then going off. last time it came on i popped it into my local garage for a computer diagnosis where it came up number 1 lamda sensor had failed. ok i was expecting that from cheap sensors but  good ol boris as i call him lol asked where i get my fuel. i said Morrissons. he let out a big Gasp and said ?'.>### ha ha in a nutshell told me to try E5 if i can get it from a branded fuel company.. shell bp whatever . he mentioned aftermarket sensors often have a tollerance less than good ones. anyway just been on holiday to cornwall only filling up with good E5 and light whent off on the trip down and after 765 miles hasent come back on filling up twice down there with branded fuel

E5 is favourable especially if the car sits around unused. Esso is the best, as it has no ethanol in most of the UK.
From the Esso website:
"Although our pumps have E5 labels on them, our Synergy Supreme+ 99 is actually ethanol free (except, due to technical supply reasons, in Devon, Cornwall, North Wales, North England and Scotland). Legislation requires us to place these E5 labels on pumps that dispense unleaded petrol with ‘up to 5% ethanol’, including those that contain no ethanol, which is why we display them on our Synergy Supreme+ 99 pumps".
