Good Luck. What Culzean says is probably what every maker would say - but £14,400 - jeez

What I don't understand is that when several owners are told by their Honda dealer that (for example) a gearbox needs replacing, they all get told different prices, and sometimes wildly different  ???

I think £14,400 is the best (worst) yet.

Hi,
What annoys me is the total lack of help from honda, no info anywhere about what the spec is for the bearings, the older versions have a bearing kit available. My specialist will have to remove and strip it then try and id the bearings, going to cost me a arm and a leg in labour charges. May be easier to trade it in, it'll  probably run for another 50,000 miles, who knows,
Chris
I'd try find a 2hnd gearbox and just swop it straight out, probably work out cheaper because you'll only know what is actually wrong with your gearbox once you open it and less labour costs.

That price means "we do NOT want to do the work.. Buy a new instead . or ### off"

I seem to remember  reading  somewhere  that the Japanese  3 year mot test was so severe that most vehicles failed which is why a large number of 3 year old vans are imported, the logic being that they want you to buy a new car rather than repair the old one. Could explain the stupendous price of a new gearbox. Gearboxes for this car seem to be non existent so I will hopefully get it repaired and sold,

There's a few Gen 2 CVT gearboxes on eBay and pretty cheap as well, around 300 pounds.

An automatic gearbox specialist told me that all CVT boxes are very expensive to fix.  He told me only have one if its covered by a warranty.

Replacement with a used one is probably the best option.

I read something along those lines a few years ago. If memory serves the Japanese treat cars like an appliance and get rid - often for scrap - after 5 or so years.

I have a feeling that all the 2011 auto models come up as i-Shift gearbox on the parts selectors.

Hi,
Last chapter inthe saga. Took car to VMTP at Norton Canes, near Cannock who specialise in auto transmission, I would thoroughly recommend them, you can google them to find. No spares available from Honda and no direct replacement second hand gearboxes available. They bought a good second hand gearbox and transferred the pulley system and bearings into my box. The gasket kit from Honda cost £89.75 (robbing b......s) total bill came to £2,178.30 and car is now running fine, now todecide if I want to keep it,

What was actually wrong with your gearbox?

Couldn't that have been sourced from a bearing supplier or was it a unique bearing made specifically for that gearbox?

Did Honda say they only supply complete gearboxes, no rebuild spares whatsoever?

Hi,
I imagine the repairer would have attempted to source the bearing before getting the secondhand gearbox. Honda won't tell you what parts are in the gearbox and will only sell you a new gearbox, they are totally unhelpful and their prices are a disgusting rip off. It seems to me that they are not interested  in their main customer base,

Did you try getting the parts online, perhaps from another country?

I'm in South Africa so doing that is quite common because our dealer spares pricing is often astronomical or will only be special order with a 3 month wait - faster and typically significantly cheaper to import yourself from a different country.

Rock Auto is a good one.
