Hi,
As expected, honda don't want to know, I said that a bearing wouldn't have failed at less than 65000 miles unless it was faulty but they just keep repeating 9 years old. When I bought this I had the choice of two at the same price but had this one as it had low milage but was 2 years older, now I know better. Car will be going to a transmission specialist next week, let's hope they can sort it but honda don't do bearing kits for this gearbox. This will be my last honda due to this,
Chris
I can remember a time not so long ago when a car would need an engine rebuild ( minimum rebore and new big ends, maybe a crank regrind ) around the same mileage as your Jazz, and maybe new clutch and work on the gearbox as well, that would be if the bodywork was in any fit state to pass an MOT... Funny how expectations change.
Just scan some of the other makers forums and you will find similar or worse cases and moans than on here, car maker cannot be held responsible for things failing for the life of the car, too many things are out of their control once the car has left their factory.
Cars these days are much better than cars have ever been, they are also way more complex and many more things to fail, reliability normally gets worse with increasing complexity as the MTBF ( mean time between failures ) as each component can fail, and there are many more of them. Being more complex also means 'cost more to repair'... I am sticking with manual boxes as long as I can press the clutch pedal, and do not want a lot of gizmos on the car either.
I had cars in the past that were money pits, non of the Honda cars I have had have cost me a penny outside of normal consumables like brake pads, discs etc so total running costs have been very low and reliability out of this world.
