Brake pads break
« on: April 11, 2020, 06:57:06 PM »
Hi

I have a 2017 HONDA JAZZ 1.3 I-VTEC S 5-DOOR.

A few months ago the garage said the brake pads were 75% warn, probably done 1000 miles since then. M.O.T. is in about three months. I have not changed them yet and it's hardly being used right now.

So I'm wondering about how much milage I've got and is there a sensor for break pads on this model?

Thx

Most garages say the pads are nearly worn out when more than half original material is remaining - it is their favourite work creation ploy as they know 90% of people ( especially women ) will not look and probably just say replace them -  ( IIRC they are about 8mm thick when new).  AFAIK Honda never fitted brake pad warning sensors just the normal 'squeal' alarm when pads about 1.6mm thick, you will know when it activates - even with radio on.

Some people will only consider you an expert if they agree with your point of view or advice,  when you give them advice they don't like they consider you an idiot

Yeah that's what I was thinking.
Wondering how many approx miles I've got then when they "squeal"!
I guess I could look but have no idea what I'm looking for.

You can carry on driving for some time after the audible wear indicators touch the discs, it won't do any harm... but the noise will act as a deterrent!

You'll want them changed ASAP.

Every time I press the brake pedal I feel like a failure. I now drive a car that can reclaim some (not all) of the energy lost but it still makes me feel bad. It's something you should only need to do when someone has screwed up.
