As my car is doing very few miles at present, I'm thinking about keeping the battery healthy. I know from experience the car will start OK after at least 5 weeks of no use, but it seems like a good idea to keep it topped up if possible. It's parked on the street so not practical to use a mains trickle-charger with the battery in situ, nor do I want the hassle of removing it to charge indoors. So I'm thinking about a small solar panel, like maybe one of these:

Can they damage the battery, eg by over-charging? They come in a variety of power outputs, what would be best to trickle-charge a car battery ?
Also, I know I wouldn't be able to use the accessory socket on the dash because that only works when the ignition is on, so does anyone have any tips about the best route to lead the charging cable from inside the cabin (where the solar panel will be) out to the battery under the bonnet? Is there a convenient grommet somewhere or just take the cable through a door seal?
