Offset for 16x7 wheels ?
« on: February 26, 2018, 06:31:16 PM »
Does anyone have any experience if 16x7 wheels work with ET38?
I guess the tyres would be 195/50x16 or 205/45x16. I don't think there should be any problem for the front wheels, but I'm not sure if ET38 works for the rear wheels? Probably the wheels would rub somewhere.
What do you think?

Probably a question best asked in a US Fit forum, like https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/

Comparison with stock 185/55R16 6.5J ET53 (CB 56.1) using site below shows 10mm less backspace than stock although greater suspension clearance but 25mm greater projection with 205.  Your replacement tyre is smaller by -3.1% so a 205/50r16 +0.3% may be more appropriate. With the 195 option it looks like similar although projection is 20mm.  Offset looks wrong IMO, should be closer to stock values.

Measure your clearance with existing wheels and adjust the calculator to find out, using the defaults it seems 'scrub radius' may also be something you should look into.

There are a few reports of what people have fitted in the build threads if you search this site.

I'm running 16x7 ET40 and they're fine. I think you'll be fine!

Check my build thread. You'll poke 2mm further out than my set up, so if you get a 195 tyre that would be better. I'm running 205/50/16

Thank you all!

It seems that I could go with 195/50 tyres. Your car Rhysfjf is a bit lowered while mine has the original suspension. I don't know if it matters? Probably not...

It's a pity that I can't change to summer wheels yet. I got an offer for a cheap set of new Advanti Chrome wheels but it's a risk buying those wheels before I'm absolutely sure that they don't rub. Those wheels were bought for a Toyota Yaris but that car crashed in an collision.

That will definitely make a difference. I'm lowered by 40mm and when I go over quite bad humps in the road at speed the wheels do catch the plastic wheel arch on the outside very briefly, they've actually caused the plastic arch to split but it's nothing for me to be concerned about - I can get pictures if you really want. But as you're on stock suspension I highly doubt you'll get that!

I could probably actually stop it doing it by removing the lining or cutting it back slightly or something, but it's so minor I've just left it. I don't get any rubbing on full lock, so they're spot on. When I get round to changing the tyres I will likely go to a 195 to see if it helps.

Hope that helps!
