Torque wrench to replace spark plugs?
« on: May 31, 2009, 11:18:09 AM »
Hi All,
when replacing your spark plugs do you use a torque wrench / spanner?  Same question if anyone has taken the cylinder head off.  If not, after hand tightening, how much further did you go?

I chose not to use a torque wrench but went about 2/3rds of a turn after sparkplugs became hand tight.

Not had occasion to remove cylinder head yet.

Its a matter of getting the tightness right as it just has to compress the copper washer then another quarter turn.......then you don't crack any heads and it also allows you to be able to take the plug out again.....torque wrenches are useful on wheel nuts with aluminium wheels............they CAN crack an alloy wheel if over tightened.........if you have a locking wheel nut removal tool don't let the tyre guys use an airgun on them as they can shatter.......thats taking the wheel off or putting it on.......thought i may as well mention it.....Joe ;)
